Description and Requirements

Our team is expanding its in-house design capabilities and is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in server design. As part of Lenovo's Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG), you will contribute to the development of next-generation server products that help solve some of the world's most complex computing challenges.

In this role, you will collaborate with engineering teams across Lenovo's global design centers to develop common building-block designs and deliver high-quality, innovative server solutions. You will be involved throughout the full product lifecycle-from concept development and design validation to market release and field sustainability.

The fast-paced server industry demands solutions that are faster, smaller, and more energy efficient. As technologies continue to evolve, this role offers the opportunity to tackle complex engineering challenges while helping shape the future of Lenovo server products.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop next-generation server platforms, including:
    • Printed circuit board (PCB) layouts
    • Structural sheet metal enclosures
    • Plastic components and assemblies
  • Partner with system architects and cross-functional engineering teams to define and finalize product concepts.
  • Create detailed mechanical designs and engineering documentation using industry-standard CAD tools.
  • Develop, prototype, validate, and optimize mechanical designs to meet performance, quality, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve design issues throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with thermal, power, system, manufacturing, and other engineering teams to ensure successful product delivery.
  • Contribute to common building-block designs used across Lenovo's server portfolio.
  • Perform engineering change management activities and maintain design documentation.
  • Develop and manage bills of materials (BOMs), cost estimates, and tolerance analyses.
  • Support product introduction, qualification testing, and field sustainment activities.
  • Provide regular project updates and report weekly design status to management.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and product quality objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of mechanical design experience in server, storage, telecommunications, or related hardware product development.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience using PTC Creo for 3D mechanical design.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience using PTC Windchill for product data and CAD file management.
  • Strong experience with Sheet metal design, Plastic part design, Mechanical assemblies and integration
  • Experience managing engineering changes and product lifecycle documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience designing enterprise server platforms and rack-mounted systems.
  • Hands-on experience assembling, debugging, and testing server hardware.
  • Experience using basic mechanical fabrication and assembly tools.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Knowledge of thermal and power system integration considerations in server products.
  • Experience supporting products through launch, sustainment, and field issue resolution.
