* Base Pay Range: $34.46 - $51.02 per hour, based on experience

* Shift Differentials: Additional $4.00 per hour for night shift

ABOUT THE JOB

MU Health Care is seeking a compassionate and skilled nurse to join our Medical Specialties unit, where you will care for a diverse adult patient population experiencing a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. In this role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with diagnoses such as pneumonia, sepsis, gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, cellulitis, infectious diseases, altered mental status, and substance withdrawal. Your clinical assessment skills and ability to recognize subtle changes in patient condition will be essential in supporting timely interventions and positive patient outcomes. You will collaborate closely with physicians, care team members, and support services to develop and implement individualized plans of care. Strong prioritization, critical thinking, and time management skills will enable you to effectively manage the complex needs of multiple patients in a fast-paced environment. You will also play an important role in educating patients and families about disease management, treatment plans, and discharge needs, helping them navigate their healthcare journey with confidence. Medical Specialties is a 55-bed unit divided into east and west wings. We deliver exceptional medical and nursing care to a varied patient population, ranging from young adults (18+) to the elderly. Our unit primarily admits patients with acute episodes or chronic conditions that do not necessitate a more specialized unit. We treat a wide array of illnesses, including pneumonia, sepsis, gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, cellulitis, infectious diseases, mental status changes, and substance withdrawal.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

* Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, sets goals, and prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative patient needs, including discharge planning.

* Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses the patient's self-report and symptoms of pain promptly. Utilizes an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment (0-10 numerical scale, FACES, or the FLACC.)

* Demonstrates an understanding of medications regarding action and side effects. Reports pertinent information to the appropriate individual. Educates patients and significant others about their medications.

* Demonstrates the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes.

* Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and assigned nursing unit.

* Participates in meetings, in-services, and quality and performance improvement groups. Understands the attendance and punctuality guidelines, and adherence to the dress code.

* Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person and records those observations accurately and concisely.

* Provides quality patient care and works with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the highest patient satisfaction.

* May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

* One (1) year of RN experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
