We are seeking an experienced Director of Business Development to drive growth through the sale of our full-cycle electrical solutions. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, this role will be responsible for expanding existing customer relationships while proactively identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities and strategic partnerships. As a key member of our U.S. commercial team, the Director of Business Development will lead sales and business development initiatives across the region, partnering closely with Operations and technical leadership to identify market opportunities, develop solutions, and deliver value to our customers. New Client Sales
- Partner with Operations Leadership to identify target markets, services, and prospective clients for new business development.
- Research and analyze prospective customers to assess business potential, profitability, and strategic fit.
- Develop and maintain a proactive sales pipeline through purposeful outreach, relationship building, and business development activities.
- Identify and coordinate sales opportunities while providing direction and support to Operational Leaders in effectively presenting their technical expertise and capabilities.
- Collaborate with Operational Managers, Project Managers, and technical experts to develop proposals and quotes, negotiate contracts, and successfully close new business.
- Partner with other members of the sales team to leverage regional relationships and activities to identify and capture new business opportunities.
- Develop a strong understanding of the company's technical capabilities, services, and underlying technologies, with a commitment to continuous learning.
Account Management
- Manage an assigned and self-developed portfolio of key accounts while collaborating with peers supporting similar customer relationships and service offerings.
- Develop and maintain strategic Key Account Management plans focused on retention, growth, and expansion.
- Build and maintain strong, mutually beneficial relationships with existing and prospective customers.
- Establish and maintain relationships with senior-level decision-makers and key stakeholders within client organizations.
- Partner with regional leadership to ensure alignment of sales strategies, customer priorities, and business development efforts.
- Monitor customer satisfaction through regular follow-up, customer meetings, satisfaction surveys, and gap analysis.
- Partner with Operations and Project Managers to address customer concerns, resolve issues, and identify opportunities to strengthen and expand customer relationships.
Marketing & Market Development
- Conduct ongoing market research to identify emerging trends, target markets, prospective customers, and new business opportunities.
- Conduct competitive research and analysis to understand market positioning, competitors, capabilities, and opportunities to increase market share.
- Partner with Operations and Senior Management to develop market strategies and identify capabilities needed to meet current and future customer and market demands.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Manager on the development and distribution of sales materials, promotional programs, exhibits, and other marketing initiatives.
- Represent the company at local, regional, and national conferences, trade shows, customer meetings, and other business development events as needed.
Tactical Planning
- Contribute to regional budget planning, sales forecasting, and business development goal setting.
- Lead account planning sessions focused on customer retention, new customer acquisition, account expansion, and revenue growth.
- Maintain accurate sales forecasts, pipeline activity, and customer information within CRM and sales management systems.
- Analyze sales and market data to identify trends, measure performance, and inform business development strategies.
- 3+ years of sales, business development, or relevant industry experience.
- Experience with electrical power systems and/or technical or engineering services.
- Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams.
- Proven experience acquiring, retaining, and re-engaging customers.
- Experience developing sales strategies, managing territories, and building sales pipelines.
- Strong understanding of sales systems, CRM platforms, and the use of sales data to drive business decisions.
- Experience with estimation and quoting platforms and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Self-motivated with a strong drive for continuous learning and professional development.
- Willingness and ability to travel at least 75% of the time throughout the assigned region and nationally, as required.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to maintain a good driving record.
