Currently recruiting a Registered Mammography Technologist to provide breast imaging and diagnostic radiology services in the Department of Radiology at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center (CRDAMC) in Fort Hood, Texas. The Mammography Technologist will perform mammographic imaging, support diagnostic procedures, assist radiologists with breast imaging procedures, and provide patient-centered care within a 24/7 military treatment facility. This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week, with schedules potentially including days, evenings, nights, weekends, federal holidays, and military training holidays. Shifts may be up to 12 hours based on Department of Radiology staffing and mission requirements. There are no on-call or call-back requirements.
DUTIES OF THE MAMMOGRAPHY TECHNOLOGIST:
- Operate specialized mammography equipment to produce high-quality breast images for screening and diagnostic interpretation.
- Position patients appropriately and adjust imaging equipment and technical settings for each examination.
- Explain mammography procedures to patients, address concerns, answer questions, provide emotional support, and promote patient comfort and trust.
- Guide patients in preparing for mammography procedures and ensure proper positioning for imaging.
- Apply appropriate radiation safety measures and assist with patient movement and physical support as needed.
- Monitor imaging studies and adjust technical settings, including density and contrast, to obtain optimal results.
- Evaluate image quality and repeat images when necessary to obtain diagnostically acceptable studies.
- Perform equipment checks, preventive maintenance, calibration, quality control, and basic troubleshooting, and initiate requests for repairs when appropriate.
- Document imaging services, quality control information, and equipment issues accurately.
- Forward completed imaging studies to radiologists for interpretation and consult with radiologists regarding cases as appropriate.
- Assist radiologists with ultrasound and stereotactic biopsies, including tissue processing and handling.
- Assist radiologists with localization procedures, including wire and RFID placement.
- Assist the lead mammographer with Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) requirements and associated recordkeeping.
- Process inbound and outbound medical imaging and imaging requests as needed.
- Communicate and collaborate with radiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain appropriate inventories of supplies and linens.
- Adhere to applicable safety protocols, regulatory standards, departmental procedures, and ongoing education requirements.
- Use proper body mechanics while performing patient care and imaging responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE MAMMOGRAPHY TECHNOLOGIST:
- Required: Associate degree or higher.
- Required: Graduate of an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). An equivalency determination may not be used as a substitute for the education requirement.
- Required: Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration.
- Required: ARRT Mammography certification.
- Preferred: One year of experience within the last two years as a general radiographer.
- Preferred: Mammography experience.
- Must maintain any license required for the position in a current, valid, unrestricted status and in good standing throughout performance of the contract.
- Must meet the Basic Life Support (BLS) requirement identified by the PWS.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen for access to U.S. Government networks.
- Must successfully complete required credentialing and provide qualifying documentation before assignment. The PWS identifies the Mammography Technologist as a credentialed contract worker.
- Must meet applicable background investigation, identity verification, installation access, and security requirements. Personnel requiring a Common Access Card (CAC) are subject to applicable background investigation and fingerprint requirements.
- Must satisfy applicable occupational health requirements, including physical examination, TB screening, required immunizations, vaccinations, and other medical testing required for assignment to CRDAMC.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including walking, standing, repetitive movement, and lifting up to 25+ pounds as required.
- Must complete applicable DHA, CRDAMC, HIPAA, information assurance, cybersecurity, and other mandatory initial and recurring training requirements.
