Position Summary
The Engineering Technologist/Distribution Designer works closely with residential and commercial customers to design and facilitate electric service connections to the Duke Energy grid. This role uses technical expertise, industry knowledge, and design software to develop safe, efficient, and compliant distribution solutions. The Distribution Designer II also supports the local operations center by assisting with complex design challenges and resolving issues to help ensure reliable service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Apply technical expertise to identify, analyze, and resolve problems within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Support business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.
- Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
- Conduct engineering and related studies to support distribution design work.
- Continually improve job-related, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
- Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintain accurate records and files.
- Support company goals and represent the company positively and professionally.
Required/Basic Qualifications
Distribution Designer II
- Associates degree in Engineering Technology and 2 years of related work experience.
- In lieu of Associates degree and two (2) years of related experience, a High school diploma/GED and four (4) years of related experience can be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical degree with 2-4 years of related experience.
- Project Management Certification.
- Experience in the utility industry.
- Understanding of basic project management principles.
Working Conditions
- Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees must live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way. Employees are expected to report to their assigned Duke Energy facility as required and directed by their manager, on average 3 full workdays per regular workweek.
Specific Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from varied socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Associate degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with no experience, or 2+ years of equivalent industry experience without a degree.
