As an EHS Specialist, you will be the driving force behind safety and environmental excellence in our facility. Your mission is to ensure every team member goes home safe every day, while maintaining compliance with all safety, environmental, and legal requirements. Safety Programs and Hazard Control Conduct daily Gemba walks and safety audits across Stamping, Welding, Assembly, and Maintenance on all shifts. Administer core OSHA programs: Lockout/Tagout, machine guarding, powered industrial trucks, confined space, hot work, fall protection, hearing conservation, and PPE. Complete and update Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and risk assessments for new equipment, process changes, and line moves. Track corrective actions from audits and observations through verified closure. Support ergonomic assessments and recommend engineering controls on high-risk tasks Incident Management Respond to injuries, near misses, and property damage events on any shift; ensure proper first response and scene control. Lead root cause investigations using 5-Why and fishbone methods, and document corrective and preventive actionsMaintain the OSHA 300/300A/301 logs and coordinate with Human Development and the workers' compensation carrier on case management and return-to-work. Share lessons learned through safety alerts and shift start-up meetings. Training and Engagement Deliver new-hire safety orientation and required refresher training across all shifts. Coach Group Leaders and Team Leaders on hazard recognition and safety conversations. Support the plant safety committee, including joint safety activities with UAW representatives per the collective bargaining agreement. Maintain training records and qualification matrices. Environmental Support Support hazardous and universal waste management, including labeling, accumulation area inspections, and manifest documentation. Assist with stormwater (SWPPP) inspections, spill prevention (SPCC), and chemical inventory and SDS management. Support Tier II reporting and other state and federal environmental recordkeeping under the EHS Coordinator's direction Compliance and Management Systems Support ISO 14001 internal audits, customer audits, and insurance inspections. Prepare for and participate in regulatory inspections (KY OSH, EPA, Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet). Report weekly EHS metrics and maintain accurate documentation in the EHS management system Perform other duties as assigned by the EHS Coordinator or Plant Leadership. Academic & Experience Required (preferred) Bachelor's degree EHS or occupational safety or in a related field with 2-5 years of experience, OR 2-5 years of Health Environmental or Safety experience in manufacturing Experience in wastewater treatment EHS Credentials / Certification (i.e. CSP, CIH, CHMM, ASP, OHST, etc...) -- PREFERRED OSHA 30 hour General Industry Experience with OSHA 300 Log & Management of Worker's Comp. cases Automotive Industry / manufacturing experience -- PREFERRED Good knowledge of EPA/OSHA regulations EHS management software (i.e. Intelex, Enablon, VelocityEHS) Environmental Compliance Knowledge of Local, State and Federal EHS regulations Safety Management Systems practice Union environment experience -- PREFERRED TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficient computer skills/Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point) Proven Project Management skills Human Development Management Cross functional leadership Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability Management Fundamentals. Core Manufacturing Processes (Stamping, Assembly, Painting, Welding, Hydroforming) * Floor presence and influence: Builds credibility with hourly team members and leaders; coaches rather than polices. Analytical problem solving: Finds true root causes and drives fixes that hold. Communication: Explains regulations and risk in plain language to audiences from operators to plant leadership. Ownership and follow-through: Closes corrective actions and documentation without reminders. Adaptability: Works effectively across shifts, schedules, and changing production priorities. * Integrity: Reports accurately and escalates concerns promptly, including when news is unwelcome. PRIORITIES & ADDITIONAL INFO: Exposure to noise, heat, welding fumes, moving equipment, forklifts, and presses. Standing and walking for extended periods (up to 8+ hours per shift); climbing stairs and ladders; bending, kneeling, and reaching. Occasionally lifting to 50 lbs. Required PPE includes safety glasses, hearing protection, cut-resistant gloves, safety footwear, and task-specific PPE.
