Focused Ion Beam (FIB) Technician

The Role

UST is searching for a skilled FIB Technician to support semiconductor sample preparation and analysis activities. The candidate will be responsible for TEM lamella preparation, FIB system operation, equipment maintenance, and ensuring high-quality laboratory operations.

What You'll Do

* Prepare wafer and sample specimens for analysis, including cleaning and sample handling.

* Operate Focused Ion Beam (FIB) systems to create high-quality TEM lamellae.

* Identify regions of interest based on engineering instructions and optimize milling conditions.

* Perform FIB alignments, calibrations, plasma cleaning, and routine maintenance activities.

* Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs with service providers.

* Collaborate with engineering teams on wafer evaluations and analytical requirements.

* Communicate results with internal stakeholders and support laboratory workflow, quality, and turnaround time objectives.

* Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) and contribute to continuous process improvements.

What You Need

* 2+ years of hands-on experience operating FIB systems in a semiconductor, materials analysis, or research environment.

* Experience in TEM sample preparation and lamella fabrication.

* Knowledge of FIB principles, sample-beam interactions, and semiconductor wafer handling.

* Experience working in a cleanroom environment.

* Must-Have Skills:

* Focused Ion Beam (FIB) operation

* TEM lamella/sample preparation

* Semiconductor wafer processing and analysis

* Equipment alignment, calibration, and maintenance

* Troubleshooting and problem-solving

* Strong communication and teamwork skills

* Nice-to-Have Skills:

* Dual Beam FIB/SEM experience

* TEM, SEM, EDS, or failure analysis experience

* Semiconductor process knowledge

* Process optimization and laboratory operations experience

Location & Compensation

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.

Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty.
