Position Summary:

The Technical Sales Leadership Development Associate (LDA) is a role that combines the development aspects of Parker's Leader Development Program (LDP/Program) with the general duties of a Parker Territory Manager or Account Manager. The Technical Sales Associate's primary duties will involve driving the growth of market share in a sales territory through application of Parker products and the management of the assigned area, while incorporating Program aspects to support decision-making processes that will impact long-term, future growth.

The Program involves a one-year rotation where the Leadership Development Associates (LDAs) will work in a variety of roles, in a competitive training and hands-on leadership program designed to provide knowledge and experience with using their discretion and independent judgment related to their skillsets to support the business. Leadership training and development experiences throughout the initial one year with the goal of developing skillsets in supervision, team leadership, and management. While in program, rotational assignments are structured to expose participants to coaching/mentoring from other professionals from the organization, different business divisions, facilities, and managers nation-wide.

  • Program Structure: multiple rotational assignments at different Parker locations

  • Rotations' length: 1-5 months each, with occasional travel within location

  • Travel requirements: The assignments will likely require relocation. Geographic flexibility is required during the program.

Essential Functions:

The program is designed to strengthen both business acumen and leadership capability, giving participants exposure to real projects, senior mentorship, and increasing responsibility so they can grow into future sales leaders who understand both customer needs and overall business strategy. Participants will also cultivate soft skills such as leadership, communication, and business acumen that are essential for their professional growth. In addition to the various leadership development activities, tasks related to the Program and Parker product exposure, the LDA will perform direct responsibilities related to the rotational Territory Manager or Account Manager assignment, including, but not limited to:

  • Develops and maintains strong client relationships with OEM customers and distributor accounts while meeting position objectives.

  • Ensure Parker products are specified to maintain and increase revenue by prioritizing the opportunities on an account-by-account basis to obtain optimum sales and margin results.

  • Develops and maintains comprehensive technical knowledge of group/divisional products, applications, features, advantages and benefits.

  • Keeps current with internal and external training and development.

  • Obtains specifications and approvals at engineering firms, major accounts and/or distributors assigned to develop increased sales opportunities and margins.

  • Develops and maintains comprehensive knowledge of competitive products and their activity in the marketplace and provides reports on a regular and/or monthly basis.

  • Keeps management aware of changes that would affect the distribution of Parker products. Participate in the development and implementation of appropriate response strategies.

  • Assists the divisions in planning strategy to provide the products and service required for their assigned accounts. Actively supports cross division and other group products with proper referral.

  • Provides product training at the distributor and customer levels. Motivates and provides sales direction to the distributors. Assists in the conversion of competitive accounts to Parker.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree; engineering or business major is preferred

  • Technical competence; being mechanically inclined is preferred

  • Work experience in sales or marketing is a plus

  • Overnight travel greater than 50-75% for the first 12-18 months

  • Relocate domestically to assigned field/territory after the program with the new location to be determined and communicated at the end of the training program

  • Work experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment is a plus

  • This role is subject to compliance with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), which requires the incumbent to be either a US citizen, lawful permanent resident ["green card" holders] or have refugee or asylee status).
