Job Summary

General Summary: Performs a variety of cleaning, landscaping, and snow removal tasks in order to maintain hospital grounds in a sanitary, orderly & attractive condition for patients, visitors & staff Principal Duties & Responsibilities - Performs all phases of snow and ice removal (shoveling, sanding, salting, chopping, plowing, etc.) - Operates mechanical equipment (e.g. sweeper, snowblowers, snow brushes, lawnmower, steam pressure washer, leaf vacuums/blowers, truck, van, vacuums, etc.) safely & according to procedure - Performs preventive maintenance on all grounds equipment such as oil changes, tune ups, etc. and recommends major repairs as needed - Maintains all horticultural material (trees, shrubs, lawns, hedges, flowers, plants, etc.) by pruning, mowing, etc. - Performs routine periodic checks of all street drains & exterior stairwells - Collects waste from exterior waste containers & transports it for disposal - Polices ground areas, entrances, plazas, sidewalks and the playground for litter throughout the shift - Performs seasonal decorating and sets up special functions - Performs other similar or related duties that may be assigned or as necessary

Qualifications

Qualifications Ability to speak and understand English. 6-12 months of related experience preferred. Current valid Massachusetts class D driver's license and good driving record required. Heavy equipment operators license for operation of front-end loader preferred. Skills and Abilities Required Requires physical ability to bend, stoop, reach and climb ladders. Must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds several times per shift. Must be able to perform repetitive motions. Must be able to operate and control high powered cleaning equipment. Ability to operate the street sweeper, van, and plow truck. Prefer experience in gardening and/or landscape operations. Requires mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and/or minor repairs on grounds equipment & vehicles. Working Conditions Exposure to extreme heat/cold during hazardous weather conditions - Denotes essential functions
