About This Role

As the Data Center Project Engineer, New York, you will support a high-workload New York City data center where project execution and critical facility operations go hand in hand. You will manage projects from concept through closeout while coordinating maintenance, reviewing technical documentation, troubleshooting facility conditions, and working closely with customers, contractors, vendors, engineers, and operations leaders.

This is a highly self-directed role for someone who can move complex work forward with minimal day-to-day instruction while maintaining a sharp focus on uptime, safety, quality, schedule, budget, compliance, and customer impact. You'll gain broad exposure across electrical, mechanical, controls, construction, commissioning, and critical facility operations while helping identify practical ways to improve reliability and execution.

Your Contribution Will Likely Include

Managing project scopes, budgets, estimates, schedules, work plans, procurement, change orders, customer requests, turnover, and closeout from concept through completion.
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications, submittals, procedures, operational requirements, constructability risks, outage risks, cost impacts, and schedule conflicts.
  • Coordinating design partners, contractors, vendors, trades, commissioning activities, and project meetings.
  • Supporting hands-on operation of a 24/7 critical facility, maintaining awareness of equipment status, operating conditions, tenant needs, and operational risk.
  • Leading and coordinating preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, repairs, installations, upgrades, and equipment replacements while minimizing downtime and customer impact.
  • Monitoring temperature, humidity, power usage, alarms, controls, dashboards, and equipment health; diagnosing abnormal conditions and coordinating corrective action and escalation.
  • Developing and maintaining MOPs, SOPs, EOPs, disaster recovery procedures, critical work procedures, project and maintenance records, incident documentation, and asset information.
  • Supporting on-call, emergency response, incident resolution, business continuity, and service restoration activities as needed.
  • Building strong working relationships with customers, internal stakeholders, vendors, contractors, technicians, engineers, and operations leaders while setting expectations and verifying work quality.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, organized, labeled, and operationally ready facility in alignment with site procedures, safety requirements, security protocols, and compliance standards.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements that strengthen reliability, efficiency, cost control, documentation quality, and execution speed, including practical use of AI tools, automation platforms, and digital systems.

Experience You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management, Project Management, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining, troubleshooting, deploying, coordinating, or supporting building infrastructure in a critical facility; mission-critical or data center experience is strongly preferred.
  • Relevant experience across areas such as mechanical, electrical, controls, building automation, construction, commissioning, operations, facilities, monitoring systems, network infrastructure, or related critical infrastructure.
  • Working understanding of data center operations, redundancy, uptime expectations, preventive maintenance, incident response, project plans and specifications, scopes of work, schedules, budgets, estimates, contractor coordination, and construction execution.
  • Technical certifications, trade school, military technical experience, college coursework, or training related to data center operations, electrical, mechanical, controls, construction, project management, or critical facilities strongly preferred.
  • Ability to quickly learn site-specific electrical, mechanical, controls, environmental, monitoring, security, and operational systems through manuals, drawings, procedures, documentation, and field training.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and related collaboration tools, with the ability to learn construction management, scheduling, maintenance, monitoring, ticketing, documentation, and AI-enabled productivity tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively during operational events, maintenance activities, projects, customer interactions, and vendor or contractor coordination.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, critical thinking, time management, prioritization, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • A self-directed, accountable approach with the ability to prioritize competing work in a fast-paced environment without compromising safety, uptime, quality, compliance, or customer impact.
  • Ability to maneuver and lift up to 50 pounds and operate hand and power tools as required in the facility environment.
  • Willingness to support flexible hours, shifts, overtime, weekends, and on-call assignments as business needs require.
