Duration: 2+ months (Contract-to-Possible-Permanent)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II to support patient specimen collection at a Patient Service Center (PSC) in Ann Arbor, MI. The ideal candidate will have strong venipuncture skills and experience working with both pediatric and geriatric patients. The phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting, labeling, processing, and preparing specimens according to established laboratory procedures.

The selected candidate may occasionally be required to float to neighboring PSC or IOP locations based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Perform venipuncture and blood draws accurately and safely.

Collect approximately 50 patient specimens per day in a fast-paced patient service environment.

Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles as appropriate.

Demonstrate experience working with pediatric and geriatric patients.

Properly identify patients and verify physician orders and laboratory requisitions.

Match requisition forms with the appropriate specimen tubes.

Accurately label specimens according to established procedures.

Collect, handle, store, and prepare specimens while maintaining specimen integrity.

Centrifuge, separate, split, and freeze specimens as required by testing protocols.

Package specimens appropriately for laboratory transportation.

Collect other specimens, such as urine or fecal specimens, when required.

Clearly explain the specimen collection/venipuncture process to patients.

Update and maintain accurate patient information and collection records.

Perform required equipment maintenance, decontamination, and documentation.

Follow OSHA, laboratory safety, infection-control, and regulatory requirements.

Respond to patient inquiries and provide professional customer service.

Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Travel to neighboring PSC/IOP locations when required.

Preferred Experience

Experience performing employment drug screens is highly preferred.

Experience in a fast-paced laboratory, hospital, PSC, or similar healthcare setting.

Experience handling and processing blood and other biological specimens.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Valid Phlebotomy certification, where required by state regulations.

Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced laboratory, hospital, or similar setting.

Strong knowledge of specimen collection, labeling, processing, and transportation procedures.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Reliable transportation, as occasional travel to neighboring locations may be required.

Ability to work with pediatric and geriatric patients.

Color vision is required.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
