The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a self-motivated, versatile Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Sergeant (FRLEO) which serves as technical and operational leader for law enforcement staff during shift operations; while this position does not have direct reports, the Sergeant role provides guidance, mentorship, and tactical direction to officers.
Internal candidates should anticipate an October 2026 start date, while external candidates will begin in January 2027 when academy training commences.

Key Activities:
Lead and coordinate law enforcement staff performing security duties including post assignments, patrol, access control, screening, surveillance, and special assignments Serve as a liaison between management and operational staff, facilitating effective communication in both directions Protects and safeguards personnel, property, assets, and operations, remaining alert for potential security, property, or safety concerns and initiates the appropriate actions. Responds to disturbances and unusual, emergency, or other rapidly evolving events/situations, including potentially life-threatening situations. Uses the appropriate degree of physical force and/or weaponry as situation dictates and makes critical decisions at the scene prior to the arrival of more senior officers. Prepares detailed incident reports. Operates and monitors Bank Law Enforcement and life safety systems and equipment, including but not limited to the closed-circuit television system, integrated access control and Law Enforcement alarm systems, x-ray machine and metal detectors, biometric readers, radio system, fire system, public address system, and fire extinguishers. May perform rotational roles such as Canine Handler, Instructor, Field Training Officer, etc. May train, delegate, and review work of less experienced staff. Leads teams of FRLEOs to support the operations functions, and direction of the Law Enforcement Unit. Facilitates and provides general oversight and direction for the day to-day activities of the Law Enforcement Department. In the absence of a supervisor, assumes responsibility for and leads shift operation or specialized area. Ensures FRLEOs are properly equipped, trained, and fulfilling their duties in compliance with organization's policies. Completes required department reports, reviews reports prepared by FRLEOs, and provides administrative assistance to supervision. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Typically requires at least 5 years of relevant experience High school education or GED Must be at least 21 years old Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Master understanding of businesses processes and subject matter. Has depth and/or breadth of expertise and is considered highly skilled. Performs work independently. Excellent oral and interpersonal communications skills Write clear, concise, and grammatically correct documents Working knowledge in the use of PCs, email, and ability to learn other computer based/ MS Office applications
Additional Information: How We Work:
Fully Onsite - Kansas City, MO Remote Eligible - No This position requires availability to work 1st, 2nd & 3rd shifts. This position is subject to shift changes/rotations, based on needs of the department. This position requires overtime work, including unscheduled overtime due to unanticipated staffing shortages from unscheduled absences or operational necessity, such as heightened Law Enforcement alerts. This position requires holidays and weekends.
Salary:
The starting pay range for this position is $62,500-$81,000 for the job level(s) required for this position. Final offers are determined by factors including the candidate's qualifications, internal alignment considerations, district assignment, and geographic location.
Screening Requirements:
This position is contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, psychological examination, agility, physical, and drug screening, as well as the ability to lawfully carry a firearm. These screenings will be initiated at the time of offer acceptance and must be successfully completed prior to the position start date. Continued employment after your start date is contingent upon successful completion of ongoing training and supplemental screenings including, but not limited to: Basic Law Enforcement Training Course (BLEC), New Officer Field Training Program (FTO), in-service law enforcement training, weapons qualifications, annual drug screening, background reinvestigations and successfully maintaining Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officer certification requirements. Background investigations and drug testing are required for all new hires as a condition of employment, after the job offer is made. Individuals hired for this role will be subject to an FBI fingerprint and criminal background check, Patriot Act/Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) watch list check, employment and education verification and NCIC check. Additional screenings may be required based upon the sensitive nature of information you will have access to. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
