About the Position

The Operations and Maintenance division is a customer-driven team that provides day-to-day maintenance and ensures the successful operation of all County facilities. We are looking for a skilled Plumber who will deliver quality work and have a strong focus on customer service to join our O & M team. The workgroup consists of numerous crafts and specialty trades, including electricians, locksmiths, trades generalists, and HVAC technicians; teamwork is a priority, and they work in county buildings 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As the landlord for all facilities owned by Maricopa County, the Facilities Management Department is responsible for the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations of more than 200 facilities comprised of over 10 million square feet. Facilities Management is a collaborative team that provides and performs various functions to meet the facility-related needs of all Maricopa County Departments. Our broad range of services includes ongoing operations and maintenance of all County-owned facilities, management of all facility projects, and in-house design services.

We Require

  • Three years of journey-level commercial plumbing experience
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational education in the plumbing field may substitute for two years of the experience requirement

Other Requirements

  • Must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona Driver's License and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Must complete a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) background investigation to access County detention facilities

We Also Value

  • Five years of experience within a large commercial, industrial, or institutional environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products and selected software programs, including Maximo

Job Contributions

  • Removes, replaces, and repairs toilets (porcelain and stainless steel), faucets, valves, meters, tempering valves, vent lines, pumps, water softeners, water heaters, showers, urinals, flush valves, flow meters, boilers, steam traps, drinking fountains, and ice machines
  • Repairs sewer lines, grease traps, and lead cast iron joints
  • Performs preventive maintenance on plumbing fixtures and systems
  • Operates a PC and Handheld devices for time management, work order assignments, statuses, inventory, and other functions as required
  • Responds to emergency situations during and after hours

Working Conditions

The employee in this position may be required to exert over 100 pounds occasionally, 50-100 pounds frequently, and 20-50 pounds constantly. Work may be performed outdoors, in an office or field environment, or in a vehicle. The employee may be subjected to the following conditions:

  • Extreme temperatures
  • Wetness/humidity

  • Moving mechanical parts
  • Fumes
  • Odors
  • Dusts and or smoke
  • Poor ventilation
  • Chemicals

  • Hazardous energy sources relating, but not limited, to mechanical, electrical, and/or plumbing systems

The employee will be required to perform work in a Jail environment and in hot, humid conditions on a regular basis.
