Job Summary

The Critical Operations Engineer I is responsible for assisting in the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of a mission-critical data center. This role supports the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of critical electrical, mechanical, telecommunications, cooling, and fire/life safety systems to ensure reliable facility performance. The engineer follows established operating procedures, safety standards, and best practices while supporting customer infrastructure projects, responding to system alarms, and contributing to continuous operational improvements. This position requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-availability environment.

Job Responsibilities




  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot mission-critical electrical, mechanical, cooling, telecommunications, and life safety systems.



  • Assist in maintaining the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center.



  • Perform routine facility inspections, respond to alarms and abnormal operating conditions, and document findings.



  • Track, analyze, and trend system performance while utilizing CMMS to manage maintenance activities and work orders.



  • Support electrical distribution systems including generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS, STS, PDUs, transformers, and customer power infrastructure.



  • Operate and maintain HVAC, chilled water, CRAC/CRAH units, humidification systems, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and related mechanical equipment.



  • Monitor fire protection systems, including wet sprinkler and double-interlock pre-action systems.



  • Support customer infrastructure projects, including rack installation, structured cabling, overhead installations, power provisioning, and equipment deployment.



  • Provide remote hands support, respond to customer requests, and manage operational incidents and service tickets.



  • Collaborate with technicians, vendors, contractors, and internal teams during maintenance, repairs, and infrastructure upgrades.



  • Maintain accurate operational documentation, logs, and maintenance records.



  • Follow established safety procedures and contribute to continuous process improvements.



  • Perform additional duties as assigned.




Job Requirements




  • 2-5 years of experience in a data center, critical facilities, industrial, or commercial electrical/mechanical environment.



  • Proven hands-on experience with large commercial or industrial electrical and mechanical systems.



  • Strong knowledge of telecommunications, electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems.



  • Working knowledge of data center operating procedures and critical infrastructure.



  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.



  • Working knowledge of electrical distribution systems, HVAC equipment, Client/Client platforms, and critical facility infrastructure.



  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, OSHA, and applicable safety standards.



  • Ability to safely use hand tools, electrical testing equipment, and computer applications.



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.



  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.



  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities including standing, walking, climbing stairs, kneeling, and reaching.



  • Must successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings.

Education




  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.



  • Technical training in electrical, HVAC, mechanical systems, telecommunications, or related field preferred.

  • Schedule: Swing Shift, Tuesday-Saturday, 2:00 PM-10:30 PM.



  • This position may require flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call assignments based on operational needs.
