Union Hospital is seeking a dependable and team-oriented Food Service Assistant I to support the Food & Nutrition team. This role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for food service operations while delivering excellent service to patients, visitors, and staff.
Schedule Requirements
Full-time hours between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM Rotating weekends and holidays required Flexibility based on departmental needs

Primary Function
Supports department sanitation and utility operations, including ware washing, pot washing, and maintaining a clean and safe food service environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and maintain dish machines, pot sinks, and sanitation stations effectively Perform ware washing duties, including monitoring and recording dish machine temperatures Clean and sanitize pots, pans, utensils, and equipment using proper procedures and solutions Follow all sanitation and infection prevention protocols, including proper chemical use and PPE Maintain cleanliness of work areas, remove trash, and manage waste disposal appropriately Comply with organizational safety standards and regulatory requirements Demonstrate teamwork and provide compassionate, respectful interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues Report safety concerns or hazards promptly and follow safe work practices
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred (or currently enrolled in high school) Ability to read, write, and follow instructions Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout shift Exposure to kitchen equipment, temperature changes, cleaning chemicals, and soiled materials
This position has a starting rate of $17.32 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $20.34 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.34 per hour.
This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
