The System Design department is seeking a highly motivated and versatile Engineer (2L) to join our team as we lead the clean energy transition. System Design is responsible for overall system analysis, design, standards, high tension, renewable and distributed generation analysis and interconnections, and engineering computer applications. The Analysis team within System Design is responsible for technical analysis, standards, and special projects. Core Responsibilities
- Support the design, upgrade, and maintenance of the electric distribution system through engineering analysis and project assignments.
- Develop, review, and maintain engineering specifications, drawings, and technical documentation for internal and/or external stakeholders as required, as well as reviewing waiver requests.
- Evaluate and approve equipment designs, vendor proposals, and manufacturer fabrication and testing processes through engineering reviews, factory tests, and analysis of vendor testing results. Ensure equipment designs and specifications comply with company standards and applicable regulations and industry standards including IEEE, NESC, and ANSI.
- Conduct engineering studies using load flow tools (e.g., PVL, SINCAL, CYME) and review technical papers, electrical schematics, and protections. Utilize studies and information gathered to develop solutions, recommendations, and technical documentation.
- Perform contingency analysis and assess system performance following distribution events to support system reliability.
- Analyze protection systems, including equipment design, settings, and coordination to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams, contractors, consultants, IT, and external stakeholders; participate in meetings and present to various audiences.
- Maintains and continues to develop technical expertise and job knowledge in assigned discipline area. Support the development of engineering applications and tools, and stay current with emerging technologies and industry advancements.
- Engage in site visits to improve system understanding, ensure compliance, and support field testing.
- Manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment, exercise independent judgment, lead issue resolution and process improvements, and support emergency response efforts, including system restoration activities.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and minimum 5 years of related work experience, including at least 3 years of engineering work experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and minimum 5 years of related work experience, including at least 3 years of engineering work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
- Knowledge of substations, Underground Network and Overhead Electrical system (required)
- Electrical Engineering experience and knowledge of advanced electrical concepts, including power systems,required.
- Ability to effectively interact with both internal and external customers, support staff and various levels of management, required.
- Experience in utilizing analytical software and load flow tools (such as Poly Voltage Load Flow, SINCAL, CAPE, and CYME TCC) in performing analysis related to power flow, system faults, and voltage regulation. Knowledge of Relay Protection and Control Systems, required.
- Work experience conducting engineering projects, design, studies, and simulations in power distribution, required.
- Knowledge of electrical equipment and industry standards related to switchgear, switches, interrupters, and transformers. Knowledge and/or experience in the physical installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical equipment, required.
- Ability to interpret electrical diagrams, drawings, and customer site plans, required.
- Knowledge of system design specifications and Experience writing Engineering specifications, preferred.
- Knowledge of distributed generation interconnection designs and relay coordination studies, preferred.
- Field experience involving the electric distribution system, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
- Ability to work rotating shifts and/or extended hours as operational needs and/or emergencies dictate, as needed.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment as required, during visits to various work ites.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
