JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

The Tax Accountant role will have the opportunity to support the tax team across all areas of income tax, including, but not limited to federal, state, and international income tax return compliance, international and domestic tax provision, research of new tax legislation, global tax reporting, and process improvement. The Tax Accountant will work closely with other tax team members and members of the Starkey Finance Department to gather information and analyze transactions for preparation of Starkey's domestic tax returns. This position will also assist in gathering information and preparing US tax returns for Starkey Laboratories, Inc.'s foreign subsidiaries. The Tax Accountant will prepare workpapers needed for financial accounting audits, provide support in responding to notices issued by tax authorities, and document requests during tax audits. The person in this position supports the Global Tax Director and other members of the tax team on special projects (acquisition diligence, corporate restructuring, etc.), research, and analysis.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS



  • Tax Compliance

    • Prepare work papers supporting book/tax differences, foreign information reporting (i.e., Forms 5471, 8858, etc.), foreign tax credit, R&D tax credit and other areas.
    • Prepare federal, international, and state tax returns.
    • Extensive involvement with tax preparation software and Oracle G/L systems.
    • Prepare calculations for quarterly estimated tax and extension payments.
    • Prepare state tax return schedules including apportionment and federal-state differences.


  • Tax Provision

    • Review international tax provisions of Starkey's foreign subsidiaries.
    • Assist in preparing tax-related financial statement disclosures.
    • Analyze book/tax differences for the domestic tax provision.
    • Prepare schedules supporting deferred tax assets and liabilities, income taxes payable, income tax reserves and tax expense.
    • Answer questions from independent auditors.
    • Analyze detailed reports and reconcile to general ledger.
    • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation in accordance with Company policy as needed.


  • Identify and recommend improvements to processes and utilization of technology by the tax department.
  • Research tax implications of proposed and completed business transactions.
  • Assist with global tax filing requirements
  • Prepare responses to tax authority information requests and assessment notices.
  • Timely, accurate and complete tax return documentation and tax return preparation.
  • Prepare tax provision work papers and account reconciliations in accordance with timelines established by Corporate Controller; timely respond to requests from independent auditors.
  • Respond to requests from taxing authorities.
  • Respond to requests for information on completed or proposed transactions.
  • Involvement of special projects, as needed.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education



  • Four-year Accounting degree or degree in another area and relevant work experience.


Experience



  • 3-5 years of corporate tax, accounting, or finance experience


Knowledge / Technical Requirements



  • Familiarity with preparing income tax returns
  • Familiarity with financial accounting processes and financial analysis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access
  • Experience with Oracle preferred
  • Familiarity with Tax Software: OneSource Income Tax preferred

Salary and Other Compensation:

The target pay rate for this position is between $64,680 - $88,200 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include: geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is eligible for a bonus based upon performance results. There is no guarantee of payout.
