asbtdc.org Summary of Job Duties:The Intake and Market Research Assistant supports the delivery of ASBTDC services through customer intake, client follow-up, and market research activities. This position serves as an initial point of contact for prospective entrepreneurs and small business owners seeking assistance from the ASBTDC and helps ensure clients are connected with appropriate resources and consulting services.

The position requires frequent communication with prospective and existing clients by telephone, email, videoconference, and in person. The successful candidate must be comfortable initiating conversations, gathering information, answering questions, assisting walk-in customers, and providing excellent customer service.

The position also fulfills market research requests by collecting, organizing, and summarizing information from online databases, industry resources, and public data sources to support business planning and decision-making.

This is an hourly (20 hours per week), grant-funded, on-site, non-benefits eligible position. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy. Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • A formal high school diploma.

Preferred Education and or Experience:

  • Significant secondary coursework in business, communications, economics, marketing, data analytics, or a related field;
  • Experience conducting market research;
  • Experience working with customers or providing customer service;
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office applications.

Job Duties:

Customer Intake and Client Support

  • Serve as an initial point of contact for prospective entrepreneurs and small business owners, providing professional, courteous, and knowledgeable customer service;
  • Engage directly with prospective entrepreneurs and small business owners by telephone, email, videoconference, and in person to answer questions, gather information, assess needs, and connect clients with appropriate ASBTDC services and resources;
  • Assist walk-in customers with small business questions and provide information regarding startup, business planning, training opportunities, and ASBTDC services;
  • Support day-to-day customer intake activities and assist walk-in, phone, email, and online inquiries;
  • Conduct outbound phone calls to prospective clients, event attendees, and training registrants to provide assistance, answer questions, encourage engagement, and support ASBTDC service delivery;
  • Conduct follow-up communications with event attendees, event registrants, and prospective clients;
  • Assess customer needs and direct clients to appropriate ASBTDC services, consultants, training opportunities, and resources;
  • Confirm that prospective clients and eCenter signups are contacted promptly;
  • Assist in maintaining positive customer relationships and providing excellent customer service;
  • Document activities in accordance with ASBTDC documentation procedures.

Market Research Support

  • Conduct secondary market research using online databases, industry resources, AI tools, and public data sources;
  • Maintain and update geographic, demographic, customer segment, and business activity profiles;
  • Assist with collecting, organizing, and validating data from various sources;
  • May create basic data visualizations and organize datasets for internal and client use;
  • Assist with market research projects supporting small business consulting activities, technology commercialization projects, and special initiatives.

Other

  • Support organizational marketing and outreach activities;
  • Work cooperatively with staff to provide high-quality assistance and customer service;
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the University System and ASBTDC Conflict of Interest standards;
  • Perform other duties as assigned to accomplish the goals and mission of the organization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate confidently and professionally with prospective clients, business owners, and stakeholders by telephone, videoconference, and in person;
  • Ability and willingness to initiate outbound phone calls and engage in frequent client communication as part of daily responsibilities;
  • Ability to comfortably engage with walk-in customers, answer questions, and provide assistance in a professional and welcoming manner;
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to gather information, assess customer needs, and provide clear guidance regarding available services and resources;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Ability to work at the ASBTDC office during business hours as assigned;
  • Must adhere to the University System and ASBTDC Conflict of Interest standards
