Under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor, Administrative Director, and the Medical Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for providing direct clinical care to employees under standardized procedures and for participating in Occupational Health programs such ass medical surveillance, outbreak and exposure response.

Covers clinic drop-in services for TB surveillance and vaccinations; administers TB skin tests, symptom reviews and vaccinations; counsels TB converters and reactors, determines appropriate follow-up care for employees with positive results. Review diagnostic tests in accordance with department policies and protocols.

Monitors OHS emails, APeX and MyChart pools; responds to patient communications, enters data in employee health database.

Provides preplacement medical interviews, urine drug screening, physical screenings and/or examinations on newly hired Health and Campus personnel to determine suitability for employment.

Triages employees who have sustained work-related injuries and illnesses. Schedules appointments as needed.

Provides health screening and immunization clearance for the student population.

Performs return to work evaluations. Performs Mask fit testing.

Provides care based upon provider orders including but not limited to TB skin tests, vaccinations, applying splints, dressing changes, POCT, discharge instructions and education.

Documents and maintains pertinent data in records and databases. Ensures all new employees have completed appropriate screening. Provides regular reports and communications to other departments and agencies. Maintains employee, patient and department confidentiality.

Coordinates and participates in departmental outreach activities at other locations including but not limited to vaccination campaigns and outreach clinics. Coordinates care and services with other Health departments or other agencies.

May need to assist with responding to communicable disease exposures; contacts and screens health care workers, confirms immunization status and coordinates departmental response.

May need to assist with consenting source patients involved with BBP or other exposures.

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

Assumes responsibility and accountability for time management, professional relationships and interpersonal interactions.

Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.

Attends scheduled staff meetings.

Attends all other required meetings and participates in committees as needed.

Acts as a resource on health and safety issues to employees, volunteers, managers and departments.

Utilizes nursing theory and practices standards as required under the California Nurse Practice Act.

Has knowledge of health promotion, common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment, ergonomics, workers' compensation and OSHA law.

Demonstrates proficiency with physical assessment and other clinical skills.

Communicates clearly and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, employees, physicians and allied health forces.

Demonstrates ability to instruct patients and implement educational programs.

Exercises skill in preparing and maintaining records, written reports and correspondence.

Possess sill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance and improvement projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of Occupational Health Nursing (LVN or RN) experience in a clinical setting
  • Recent (within 2 years) Occupational Health experience coordinating vaccine outreach and surveillance programs for UCSF.
  • Experience in training and orientation of vaccine outreach workers in vaccine administration required by UCSF policy.
  • Knowledge of and experience using TrackIt, the UCSF OHS EMR
  • Experience in NHSN reporting (Flu and COVID vaccination metrics)
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • COHN or COHN-S Certification
  • Public Health Nurse
  • Advanced Nursing Degree

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Current California RN license
  • Current AHA CPR certification

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
