Senior Electrical Engineer - Data Centers
This is a full-time exempt (40+ hours/week), remote or hybrid role located in New York, NY
Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership for the design and development of large-scale, mission-critical data center infrastructure. This role will oversee end-to-end electrical system designs spanning utility interconnection, medium-voltage distribution, low-voltage power systems, and rack-level power delivery.
The successful candidate will establish and maintain engineering standards, ensure design consistency and code compliance across multiple projects, and support the continued growth of a rapidly expanding hyperscale data center portfolio. This position offers the opportunity to influence next-generation electrical architectures, liquid cooling deployments, modular infrastructure solutions, and multi-gigawatt campus developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight for electrical system design across the entire data center power chain
- Review and guide designs for medium-voltage distribution systems, low-voltage distribution architectures, and rack-level power delivery systems
- Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, industry standards, and company engineering requirements
- Develop, maintain, and improve electrical design standards, specifications, and engineering best practices
- Perform technical reviews to ensure consistency, reliability, maintainability, and scalability across projects
- Evaluate and recommend electrical distribution topologies based on project requirements and operational objectives
- Support equipment selection, specification development, and technical submittal reviews
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, consultants, utilities, contractors, and vendors throughout project execution
- Identify design risks and implement solutions to improve reliability, efficiency, and constructability
- Maintain design quality across a rapidly growing portfolio of mission-critical facilities
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to power distribution, resiliency, and operational performance
Our Ideal Candidate
- 8+ years of experience designing mission-critical electrical infrastructure, data centers, or large industrial facilities
- Proven experience designing end-to-end electrical systems from utility service entrance through rack-level power delivery
- Strong understanding of medium-voltage and low-voltage power distribution systems
- Deep knowledge of common data center electrical topologies including:
- 2N
- N+1
- Distributed Redundant
- Catcher Bus
- Experience establishing and enforcing engineering standards across multiple concurrent projects
- Strong understanding of electrical reliability, redundancy, and resiliency principles
- Experience performing design reviews and maintaining technical quality across large project portfolios
- Strong knowledge of applicable electrical codes and industry standards
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience supporting hyperscale data center developments
- Previous experience with major cloud providers or mission-critical engineering firms
- Experience with SKM, ETAP, or similar power system modeling software
- Experience with equipment specification development and technical submittal reviews
- Experience creating engineering standards, specifications, and design guidelines from the ground up
- Familiarity with liquid cooling infrastructure and emerging high-density compute environments
Compensation & Benefits
- The pay for this W-2 position ranges from [$96.15 - $129.81] per hour
