Fiber Splicer Job Category: Cable Technician / Installer Location: Eastern Shore, MD (Salisbury, Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Centreville, Glen Burnie, and surrounding areas) Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Fiber Splicer to support large-scale AWS data center and backbone fiber network projects. This role plays a critical part in network expansion, maintenance, and backbone cleanup initiatives across Maryland's Eastern Shore. This is a high-visibility position supporting critical infrastructure with strong long-term growth potential. Key Responsibilities * Perform OSP/ISP fiber splicing across aerial and underground networks * Execute single fiber and ribbon splicing (including rollable ribbon) * Work with high-count fiber cables (24-strand up to 432/864 count) * Conduct fiber testing and troubleshooting using EXFO/OTDR equipment * Maintain strict splice quality and loss standards (target dB loss ~0.1-0.2) * Perform mass fusion splicing (Sumitomo, Fujikura equipment) * Install and terminate connectors: * SC/UPC * High-density LC panels * Tune, calibrate, and maintain splicing equipment * Manage and maintain company-issued splice rig van and tools * Handle occasional equipment upkeep and "housekeeping"/office tasks Required Qualifications * 3+ years of fiber optic splicing experience, including high-density/ribbon splicing * Strong experience with: * Fusion and ribbon splicing (24-864 count fiber) * OTDR testing and troubleshooting (EXFO preferred) * Proven ability to meet strict performance and loss standards * Experience working in field environments independently * Strong work ethic, reliability, and professionalism * Valid, clean driver's license (company vehicle provided) Preferred Qualifications * Experience supporting AWS or data center builds * Experience in OSP and ISP environments * Familiarity with high fiber count networks (432/864) * Experience with Vetro mapping or GIS tools * Exposure to aerial fiber work (no bucket truck required) Top Skills * Fiber optic splicing * Ribbon splicing (rollable ribbon) * OTDR testing (EXFO) * Fusion splicing * OSP/ISP fiber installation * Fiber troubleshooting * High-density fiber networks Work Environment & Travel * Field-based role with travel throughout the Eastern Shore region * Primary service corridor: Berlin to Harry Nice Bridge * Office located in Salisbury, MD * Flexible start locations (job site or office) based on efficiency * Company splice van and gas card provided Additional Details * Must have a clean/valid driver's license (take-home company splice rig) * Candidates should be comfortable traveling across the region as needed * Occasional office days for equipment maintenance and preparation Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Salisbury, MD.
