Electrical Engineering Design and Integration Manager

Brookhaven National Laboratory
$136,350.00 - $218,150.00 / yr
United States, New York, Upton
20 Brookhaven Ave (Show on map)
Jun 30, 2026

Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is the site for the new Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a one-of-a-kind nuclear physics research facility. The EIC will be a discovery machine for unlocking the secrets of the "glue" that binds the building blocks of visible matter in the universe. The machine design is based on the existing and highly optimized RHIC Ion-Ion collider. It will consist of two intersecting accelerators, one producing an intense beam of electrons, the other a beam of protons or heavier atomic nuclei which are steered into collisions. Beyond sparking scientific discoveries in a new frontier of fundamental physics, the Electron-Ion Collider will trigger technological breakthroughs that have broad-ranging impact on human health and national challenges.

Position Description

The Electrical Engineering Design and Integration Manager is a line-management role reporting directly to the EIC Power Supply Group Leader. The successful candidate will lead a team of electrical engineers and technicians responsible for AC power systems, powersupply electrical integration, and the operations of the EIC cable and rack plant. This position also serves as a Control Account Manager (CAM) within the EIC project, responsible for tracking, coordinating, and reporting progress and spending for the cable and rack plant, and other assigned electrical engineering project scope.

The role requires working in a highly collaborative, crossdisciplinary environment involving multiple EIC groups, the ColliderAccelerator Department (CAD), Environment, Safety & Health (ES&H), and Facilities & Operations (F&O).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide line management, supervision, and mentorship to electrical engineers, and technicians within the Power Supply Group.

  • Plan, allocate, and manage team workload and priorities in alignment with project milestones.

  • Lead and manage the specification, design, and analysis of power supply cables, cable tray, and racks, and assist other EIC groups with engineering of their cable, cable tray, and rack scope

  • Lead and manage the operations of the EIC cable and rack plant, including fabrication planning, standards, quality control, workflow, documentation, and resource allocation.

  • Serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) for assigned EIC project scope, including:

    • Tracking progress, expenditures, and resource usage for cable and rack plant activities and related electrical integration tasks.

    • Preparing monthly earned value reporting and presenting performance data to project management.

    • Identifying schedule or cost variances, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions.

    • Coordinating closely with project controls, procurement, and other WBS managers to ensure accurate forecasting and planning.

  • Coordinate electrical integration activities ensuring compatibility with accelerator systems, magnets, controls, and facility infrastructure.

  • Contribute to the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning activities for general AC power distribution systems and power supplies.

  • Work collaboratively with multiple EIC technical teams, CAD groups, ES&H staff, and F&O personnel to ensure safe, coordinated, and efficient execution of electrical work.

  • Develop and enforce engineering standards, design practices, documentation, and safety procedures.

  • Support design reviews, readiness reviews, configuration control, and other formal project processes.
