Position Overview


Primary Purpose of the Position
The Department of Management, Marketing and Management Information Systems in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Winston-Salem State University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship beginning August 2026 who will be teaching a variety of entrepreneurship courses. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to research and community involvement.

The candidate would also be expected to serve as a faculty advisor, mentor, and coach students, produce innovative scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals within the discipline, present at professional conferences, participate in departmental, college and university service as well as engage in service to the professional discipline and the larger Winston-Salem and Forsyth County community. Procuring extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams is encouraged.

We seek exceptional candidates who are committed to teaching undergraduate and graduate business students from culturally diverse backgrounds. Candidates will demonstrate an ability to leverage various technologies that engage students equitably in the learning process. They will commit to professional growth and development by participating in training and engaging with professional organizations and conferences. The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential for a research agenda to publish in peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate will have demonstrated involvement in entrepreneurial activities, including community involvement.


Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of an MBA from an AACSB accredited university. A doctorate in business or a related area, preferred. ABDs with a clearly identifiable date of graduation before August 15, 2026, may apply
  • Strong teaching background or a potential for teaching excellence and a passion for student engagement
  • Track record of published scholarly research in peer-reviewed journals or potential for scholarly research publications
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with business and industry

Describe the specific job duties related to this competency
WSSU seeks a committed and engaged faculty member for the Department of Management, Marketing, and Management Information Systems who will perform specific duties at a high level. These duties include but are not limited to the following:

Teaching and Mentoring

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching entrepreneurship courses to both undergraduate (primarily) and graduate students, utilizing face-to-face, online, and hybrid instruction methods. The teaching load will consist of up to 12 credit hours (or the equivalent contact hours) per semester. Applicants who demonstrate a robust agenda and dynamic track record of scholarly achievement may be eligible for a reduction of up to 3 credit hours per semester in their teaching load
  • The successful candidate must construct detailed course syllabi, facilitate high quality, engaging instruction to students with diverse learning styles
  • The ideal candidate will leverage various technologies (e.g., EAB Navigate, Canvas Adobe tools) to communicate regularly with students, monitor student progress, and provide feedback on student success outcomes
  • The successful candidate must hold office hours each week proportionate to their teaching load


Scholarship and Creative Activity

  • The ideal candidate must have a working research agenda that advances scholarship in the entrepreneurship, or related, discipline
  • The ideal candidate must produce scholarly research that results in quality publications in peer-reviewed journals within the marketing discipline
  • The ideal candidate must facilitate presentations at well-respected local, state, national, and international professional conferences, meetings, and convenings within the entrepreneurship discipline
  • The ideal candidate should engage in the procurement of extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams that advance scholarship and engagement activity within the entrepreneurship discipline

Service and Engagement

  • Actively participate in faculty governance across the university
  • Develop ideas for programs, policies, and procedures into supportable proposals and improvements as a leader
  • Apply disciplinary expertise in professional and community service organizations
