The Driver Recruiter is responsible for sourcing, recruiting, screening, and hiring qualified commercial drivers to support the organization's operational staffing needs. This role focuses on attracting and securing CDL, non-CDL drivers, and driver trainees while maintaining a positive candidate experience and ensuring compliance with all hiring requirements. The Driver Recruiter partners closely with operations leadership to understand workforce needs, reduce vacancies, and improve driver retention. Responsibilities of Position:



  • Recruiting & Sourcing

    • Manage recruiting for CDL, non-CDL, and driver trainee positions
    • Source candidates through job boards and platforms, social media, employee referrals, community outreach, and networking
    • Conduct proactive outreach to passive driver candidates
    • Develop and maintain driver talent pipelines for current and future hiring needs
    • Attend hiring events, job fairs, CDL schools, and community recruiting events


  • Candidate Screening

    • Conduct phone screens in accordance with established metrics to evaluate qualifications, experience, availability, and interest
    • Verify CDL requirements, endorsements, driving experience, and employment history
    • Assess candidates for cultural fit and alignment with company values
    • Present qualified candidates to hiring managers in a timely manner


  • Hiring Process Management

    • Coordinate interviews between candidates and operations leaders
    • Manage candidate communications throughout the recruitment process
    • Ensure all applicant tracking system (ATS) records are accurate and compliant
    • Work closely with compliance/onboarding teams to ensure timely pre-employment screening, hiring, and on-boarding processes
    • Monitor hiring progress and proactively address bottlenecks


  • Partnership with Operations

    • Meet regularly with district, operations, and fleet leadership to review staffing needs
    • Maintain an understanding of driver staffing levels, turnover trends, and upcoming workforce requirements
    • Provide market intelligence regarding compensation, competition, and recruiting trends
    • Advise managers on recruiting best practices and candidate selection


  • Metrics & Reporting

    • Track and report recruiting activity to operational and senior leadership





Supervisory Responsibility:



  • This position will not manage employees



Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:



  • Strong interviewing and candidate assessment skills
  • Understanding of CDL classifications, endorsements, and DOT requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships with candidates and operational leaders
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple requisitions simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and recruiting technologies



Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:



  • 3+ years recruiting/sourcing experience preferred
  • Experience recruiting CDL Drivers or transportation personnel
  • Ability to independently travel up to 30% to Rumpke's various locations of operation
  • Experience in high-volume recruiting environments preferred
  • Associates degree in HR, business, or related field preferred



Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:



  • Rarely lifting/carrying a max of 20 lbs
  • Rarely working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Frequently sitting
  • Occasionally standing/walking



Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:



  • Office based with travel to operating locations, job fairs, CDL schools, and recruiting events
  • Frequent phone and computer use
  • May require occasional evening or weekend recruiting activities
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
