$54,683.20 - $91,145.60 Shift: Day- 9am to 5pm

Who We Are: Board-certified chaplains are the core of the Chaplaincy Services staff at Children's National. Clinically trained on-call chaplains are available to patients, families and staff 24/7 for support, education, ritual and consultation.

What You'll Do: As a Staff Chaplain you will provide professional chaplaincy services to patients, families, and staff from an interfaith and interdisciplinary framework. Is responsible for spiritual assessment, communication of needs of patients/families to the interdisciplinary team and resourcing those needs. Provides crisis intervention/support for patients, families, staff. Assists families/staff with exploring ethical considerations.

Minimum Education

  • High School Diploma or GED Religious training or education equivalent to a seminary/divinity school degree; preferably at the M.Div. level.

Minimum Work Experience

  • 1 year Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (1600 hours of training under supervision), preferable by an accredited program of the Association ofClinical Pastoral Education (acpe.edu) or equivalent in terms of training expectation and objectives, completed satisfactorily. One year experience in pediatric chaplaincy (may be met through a clinical pastoral education residency). (Required)

  • Ability to respond to any required need within 30 minutes.

Functional Accountabilities
Interdisciplinary/Leadership

  • Ability to work as a cooperative member of the healthcare team through appropriate patient chart entries, use of common healthcare terminology, handwashing and other safety precautions, referrals, interdisciplinary conferences, and collegial relationships.
  • Have knowledge and skill to serve as a resource in ethical decision making.
  • Use skill to foster a spiritual dimension of care throughout the healthcare setting, consistent with appropriate accreditation standards.
  • Awareness of, and commitment to, the overall mission of the healthcare setting and the role of pastoral/spiritual care in that mission.
  • Use skill and judgment necessary to serve as a thoughtful member and spiritual/religious/cultural voice on committees within the healthcare setting and for the institution in the wider community .

Administrative

  • Show adherence to, all hospital and department requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Use good stewardship of time, energy, physical, and financial resources.
  • Use skill to communicate with members of the pastoral/spiritual care team for appropriate hand-off, resolution of all needs/issues.
  • Use skill to maintain an appropriate schedule, responding to all requests in a timely manner, engaging in appropriate communication in a professional manner.
  • Use accountability to report complex situation to the Senior Chaplain/Manager and all off-shift and/or on-call situations which require follow up and demonstrate follow-through in ascertaining that follow up has occurred.
  • Participate regularly in pastoral/spiritual care staff meeting and/or on-call chaplain in-service meetings.
  • Report safety issues, conflicts, risk issues directly to the Senior Chaplain as well as to any other appropriate entity within the healthcare setting.
  • Keep a commitment to Pediatric Chaplain competencies and professional certification competencies and requirements through appropriate continuing education.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate data regularly.

  • Share in the work of administration as appropriate.

The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children's National believes an individual's base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children's National compensation philosophy. These factors are legitimate and non-discriminatory including, but not limited to, the current market conditions; organizational needs; the individual's combination of prior work experience, level of education, knowledge, skills, and other qualifications. Children's National is committed to providing a fair and competitive total rewards package to each of our employees. This base salary range does not include our comprehensive benefits package or any additional compensation for which this position may be eligible.
