Job Overview

The Sr. Automation Engineer will collaborate with others and be responsible for conducting assessments, specifying, installing, documenting, and troubleshooting automation equipment for new and existing products and processes. The position will improve plant and equipment operating e ciency by providing automation and engineering support to the plant operations. They will develop and enhance process automation application for present and future automation systems. The role will work with other similar positions across Hubbell to provide project management with recommendations on technical advancements to achieve company goals and maximize productivity.

A Day In The Life

Every day at Hubbell is different and you'll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you'll make a difference by:



  • Determine where opportunities exist to implement automation by working closely with Product Designers, Project Managers, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Managing automation projects built by inside/outside custom automation vendors including concept work, equipment specication, project management, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning/debug, and sustainment.
  • Responsible for identifying and leading automated equipment projects to increase production capacity and improve product quality.
  • Identify potential process improvement projects, design, and develop programs to address ndings.
  • Develops/reviews/maintains/update related documentation, les, procedures, databases, drawings, and schematics to ensure integrity of unit instrument and process control technologies.
  • Work with Product Designers, Project Managers, and Manufacturing personnel to rene product and equipment designs.
  • Complete assigned work within agreed upon schedule and budget while maintaining high level of quality.
  • Troubleshooting automation installations with an outcome of improving OEE and operating costs across locations in the segment.
  • Develop, implement, and sustain long range plans for Automation processes improvements.
  • Guide and train designated employees on process control methodology to assist Automation processes improvement eorts.
  • Develop/modify procedures & training guidelines as needed for automation processes, including training of setup and maintenance personnel.
  • Provide leadership and communication to all project team members and functional managers such that the project objectives are clear, responsibilities are understood, and progress is tracked and reported.
  • Provides project team input on system capabilities and assist teams with system design decisions.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (General, Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical), or related field (required)
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant experience(required)
  • Excellent technical/engineering skills
  • Possess plant maintenance and operation knowledge along with technical skills to perform assigned duties
  • Solid knowledge in the fields of Automation/Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, with extensive technical experience in the design, build, optimization, and project management of automation equipment
  • Interface with mechanical team to control the architecture design and implementation, ensuring the correct support of motion controller configuration, setup, fine tuning, data collection, data analysis and reporting, and equipment safety requirements
  • Experience with automation and knowledge of designing and implementing system Automated systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, principles of operation, reliability, and performance of equipment
  • Comfortable creating new solutions to problems, working in a dynamic environment, and with members from different disciplines and backgrounds
  • Detail oriented with strong documentation skills with respect to project and task tracking
  • Experience writing Standard Operating Procedures and other manufacturing documentation
  • Proven time management skills; ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks effectively
