About us

One team. Global challenges. Infinite opportunities. At Viasat, we're on a mission to deliver connections with the capacity to change the world. For more than 35 years, Viasat has helped shape how consumers, businesses, governments and militaries around the globe communicate. We're looking for people who think big, act fearlessly, and create an inclusive environment that drives positive impact to join our team.

What you'll do

The Strategic Finance team plays a meaningful role in crafting our long-term business strategy and driving execution by exploring new opportunities. We support Corporate and the individual Operational Areas by presenting opportunities for alignments, new growth, and cost reductions through partnerships, new products, and asset allocation.

We are seeking a high-caliber finance professional with a background in Investment Banking, Corporate Development, or Private Equity to join our Strategic Initiatives Finance team. Unlike a traditional FP&A role, this position functions as an internal advisory unit. You will be responsible for driving the company's long-term valuation through sophisticated financial engineering, M&A evaluation, and rigorous capital allocation analysis. You will serve as a strategic partner to the executive leadership team, providing the data-driven conviction required for major enterprise decisions.

The day-to-day

  • Strategic Modeling & Valuation: Build and maintain complex, dynamic three-statement models to forecast long-term business trajectory and evaluate the impact of various strategic pivots.
  • Transaction Support: Execute rigorous financial due diligence and valuation analysis for potential acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic partnerships.
  • Capital Allocation Strategy: Quantify the ROI of major internal investments vs. external opportunities, ensuring the company's capital is deployed to its highest-value use.
  • Executive Advisory: Synthesize complex financial data into high-level strategic narratives for the Board of Directors and C-suite, acting as a "internal consultant" on market trends and competitive positioning.
  • Performance Optimization: Move beyond variance analysis to identify deep-lever unit economics and "what-if" scenarios that drive enterprise value

What you'll need

  • Experience: 6-10 years of experience in Investment Banking (M&A or Coverage), Corporate Development, Private Equity, or a high-growth Strategic Finance function.
  • Technical Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in financial modeling (LBO, DCF, M&A accretion/dilution) and the ability to build "from scratch" without templates.
  • Strategic Mindset: Proven ability to look past the "how" of the numbers to the "why" of the business strategy.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to distill complex financial concepts into actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related quantitative field; MBA or CFA is a plus but not required for candidates with strong deal experience.
  • An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment while constantly accumulating knowledge of our complex and evolving technology
  • Ability to work onsite in a hybrid format in Carlsbad, CA

What will help you on the job

  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and high attention to detail.
  • Passion for technology and deep understanding of the product/service.
  • A foundational set of abilities required for assessing strategic concepts, including data-driven research and analysis.
  • Proven ability to deliver concise explanations of sophisticated ideas and strategies to executive leaders.
