THE ROLE:

This is a test engineering position responsible for debug of manufacturing and characterization test programs for next-generation AMD microprocessors. This work is done using internal Automated Test Equipment(ATE) and System Level Test (SLT) platforms to debug test infrastructure issues including test hardware, test software, diagnostics and device-specific IP. Position includes test plan execution, silicon characterization/debug and data analysis.

THE PERSON:

You will play a key role within a collaborative team dedicated to analyzing and debugging customer returns, ensuring that product quality issues are thoroughly investigated and resolved. Your work will involve correlating test solutions with lab, manufacturing, and customer platforms to identify root causes, validate corrective actions, and drive continuous improvements in product design, fabrication processes, packaging technologies, and overall manufacturing robustness to meet and exceed product specifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Has responsibility for definable portion of large project or process and is responsible for quality and timely result. Primary focus is on driving execution of projects.
  • Executes product improvement activities to reduce cost, improve yield, and resolve quality issues.
  • Accountable for results in area and for communication of the status and interdependencies to management or senior design staff.
  • Debugs complex infrastructure issues in hardware, software, device, or manufacturing flow domains which may involve modifying standard engineering methods.
  • Influence technical decisions that have impact on AMD's final product.
  • Develops system level test program to analyze AMD microprocessors and ensure quality of products in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Expected to implement important technical decisions.
  • Develops test and characterization requirements, specifications and test patterns.
  • Collaborates on or assumes responsibility for a specific project or a definable portion of a larger project, process, or group.
  • Integrates software stack components from a wide variety of AMD teams to form a test program.
  • Other duties as necessary.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Programming experience with C++,Java, C, or C#.
  • Silicon debug using customized diagnostics and OS's on a bench or in System Level Test platform.
  • Low level software development (Assembly, BIOS).
  • Scripting languages such as Perl, Ruby, shell script, or similar
  • Experience w/ PC HW debug including networking, storage, and thermal control.
  • Statistical analysis experience to determine population mean and outliers.
  • Pareto analysis experience to drive a debug process.
  • Lean, XP, AGILE, Scrum, or Kanban processes.
  • Experience with revision control (GIT, SVN, CVS, or similar).
  • Linux or Unix Operating Systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft standard apps (i.e. Office) & Windows.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with geographically distributed product engineering teams.
  • General Computer Architecture concepts such as pipelining and caching, x86 architecture, and PC computer organization.
  • Building computer systems (desktops, laptops, servers, etc).
  • Familiar with using logic analyzers, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and other debug tools.
  • Work experience in any of these areas preferred.
  • Courses or certifications in project management (PMI, LSS, AGILE).

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical

  • Engineering or Computer Science experience or a Master of Science in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
