Injection Molding Process Technician I - Day Shift (7:00AM - 7:00PM) $29.00/hr.

Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for an Injection Molding Process Technician I to be based out of Dallas, TX. Reporting to the Molding Production Manager, the primary focus of this role is to operate and maintain injection molding machines and ensuring the implementation of scientific molding process to produce high-quality plastic parts.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in thermoplastics injection molding with minimum of high school degree or GED equivalent.

What you'll do:



  • Operation of Injection Molding Machine & Associated Equipment

    • Set up and operate injection molding machines to produce plastics parts according to part specifications.
    • Monitor and adjust machine parameters such as temperature, pressure, and cycle time to optimize production efficiency and product quality.
    • Complete minor maintenance tasks of injection molding machine (testing/changing heater bands, changing fuses in control card, etc.) to prevent unscheduled downtime.
    • Start up, shutdown and perform purging of injection molding machines.
    • Must be able to troubleshoot auxiliary equipment (grinders, blenders, hopper loaders, and chillers).
    • Able to prioritize production schedule to meet production target provided by demand planning.
    • Perform mold changeovers efficiently while ensuring proper machine, mold, process, and auxiliary equipment setup.
    • Ability to operate, program, and troubleshoot robot and/or assembly cells.
    • Assist with secondary operation equipment including gasketing, screw insertion, automation, and vision detection technology, report issues related to them to maintenance and production to ensure that they get fixed on-time.
    • Ensure that AM and PM are up to date on all equipment and machines.
    • Maintain adequate inventory including machine supplies, tooling supplies, spare parts, and cleaning supplies.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols and regulations by acting to promptly correct or remove all workplace hazards.


  • Molding Processing & Production of High-Quality Plastic Parts

    • Follow technical instruction by engineering to identify process improvements and implement corrective actions.
    • Ability to support new product development (NPD), new product introduction (NPI), and new tool qualification (NTQ) processes from building a decoupled injection molding process to validating the process to meet part quality specs.
    • Set up, start, and optimize injection molding processes using scientific molding methodologies.
    • Validate and maintain robust, repeatable processes for new and existing molds to reduce cycle time and scrap.
    • Perform injection molding process DOE based on scientific molding principles and parameters.
    • Implement robust process documentation control plan developed by engineering leadership including process sheets, mold water diagram, and process change logs and provide change justification as needed.
    • Transfer and validate processes between machines, including process setup sheet creation and documentation.
    • Must have experience with production startup process including first article inspection (FAI) approval processes.


  • Quality & Production Documentation

    • Inspect machines and perform hourly in-process inspection of plastic parts to ensure production of quality parts.
    • Diagnose and promptly correct process and/or part quality issues (such as flash, short shots, splay, burns, dimensional deviations, and cycle-time) reported by production operators to prevent large quantity of scrap and inefficiencies.
    • Monitor scrap being produced from process and implement changes to eliminate root cause of scrap.
    • Submit accurate daily end of shift report to production manager and engineering.
    • Submit process documents to engineering.
    • Upload production report and update work order status in ERP system.
    • Maintain acceptable level of housekeeping by 5S standards in the assigned work area.


  • Troubleshooting

    • Collaborate with tooling, quality, maintenance, and production teams to resolve production issues.
    • Document and submit tooling issues/repair status documents to engineering.
    • Document and report machine and auxiliary equipment issues to maintenance.
    • Work with Engineering to implement process improvements that enhance quality, reduce downtime, and improve cycle times.




What you'll bring:



  • Minimum high school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a process technician in thermoplastic injection molding, 2+ years related experience is preferred.
  • Scientific injection molding experience, RJG certification preferred.
  • Medical and automotive molding experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, standard documents, & technical documents to ensure accurate production.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of equipment (injection molding machine, robotics, assembly cells).
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and demonstrated skill in setting molds, working with mold setter, tool tech, quality, shipping, and maintenance.
  • Operate forklift and Crane to do mold changes as well as move and organize molds.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.


Within 3 months, you'll:



  • Complete hourly immersion and any required training.
  • Have a good understanding of our Safety Culture.
  • Have developed relationships with the key stakeholders for this role.
  • Be well-versed in Atkore's Business System and the importance of your role to daily operations.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $29.00/hr. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
