The Senior Manager, Desktop Engineering & Messaging provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and continuous modernization of Horizon's end-user computing and messaging environments. This role leads the Desktop Engineering and Messaging teams, with responsibility for laptops, desktops, virtual desktop, endpoint security, collaboration tools, and enterprise messaging services.
This leader is accountable for delivering secure, reliable, and scalable end-user experiences, ensuring alignment with business objectives, cybersecurity standards, and regulatory requirements. The role partners closely with Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Service Desk, Enterprise Architecture, and key business stakeholders to drive high-quality, compliant, and innovative workplace technology solutions.
What You'll Do
Lead, mentor, and develop Desktop Engineering and Messaging teams, including managers, engineers, and specialists. Establish clear performance expectations, career development plans, and succession strategies. Define and execute the enterprise strategy for endpoint computing, mobility, virtual desktops, and messaging platforms, ensuring alignment with Horizon's technology roadmap and business priorities. Oversee day-to-day operations for endpoint and messaging services to ensure high availability, performance, and strong user satisfaction, while meeting defined SLAs and operational metrics. Partner with Cybersecurity to ensure all endpoints and messaging systems comply with security standards, regulatory requirements, retention policies, and legal hold obligations. Drive modernization initiatives such as cloud-based device management, collaboration enhancements, automation, and AI/Copilot adoption to improve productivity and operational efficiency. Provide accountability for enterprise messaging services, including email, calendaring, collaboration tools, and related integrations, ensuring stability, scalability, and compliance. Collaborate closely with Service Desk, Infrastructure, Networking, Identity, Asset Management, and vendor partners to ensure seamless end-user service delivery. Manage budgets, licensing, contracts, and vendor relationships related to desktop, endpoint, and messaging technologies. Ensure cost-effective solutions and accurate forecasting. Establish and enforce standards for endpoint builds, messaging configurations, security controls, documentation, and operational processes. Develop and maintain business continuity plans and disaster recovery strategies to ensure endpoint and messaging services can withstand disruptions. Provide executive-level oversight during major incidents, outages, migrations, or security events impacting endpoints or messaging platforms, ensuring timely resolution and root cause remediation. Track performance metrics, analyze data, and provide regular reports to leadership on performance and accomplishments. Ensure adherence to IT policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements related to data protection and privacy.
What You Bring Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree required or 12 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree. Requires a minimum of 10 years' experience managing and implementing IT Infrastructure projects. Prefers prior experience in health insurance industry. Prefers prior supervisory experience. Experience supporting multiple applications (Desktop Engineering for laptops, desktops, virtual desktops, endpoint security, collaboration tools, and enterprise messaging services).

Knowledge:
Cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) and on-premises virtualization technologies (Nutanix, VMWare, Hyper-V. Data Management and Protection Knowledge of hybrid cloud operations and application architecture Understanding of budget management process to define and manage projects to budget for both internal/external resources. Understanding of enterprise-level application architecture principles, patterns, and best practices for technology operations Knowledge of automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) for infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and application deployment Knowledge in self-healing systems, monitoring tools, log analysis, and anomaly detection in the context of enterprise applications and hybrid environments. Knowledge in incident management processes and root cause analysis techniques. Familiarity with performance optimization techniques, capacity planning, and scalability considerations for enterprise applications in hybrid environments Good understanding of IT Security Controls and objectives. Experienced in defining, maintaining, executing strategic roadmaps for platform modules, products and capabilities (e.g. MS Teams, ServiceNow). Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, senior stakeholders, and application owners. Assist in managing and maintaining the organization's hybrid cloud infrastructure, including both on-premises and cloud resources, with a focus on enterprise-level application architecture. Collaborate with senior stakeholders and teams to understand hybrid cloud and application architecture requirements and contribute to their implementation. Process automation skills with the ability to implement strategies across various technology domains to improve application architecture operations and orchestration systems. Ability to integrate monitoring and alerting systems to enable real-time anomaly detection and assist in incident response efforts for critical enterprise applications. Demonstrated ability to lead incident management and root cause analysis activities while improving incident response capabilities for enterprise level applications. Ability to monitor and analyze performance metrics of enterprise applications in hybrid environments, identifying areas for optimization and resource utilization improvements. Support security initiatives by following established policies, procedures, and best practices. This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity.
