POSITION SUMMARY: The Haul Truck Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a haul truck to transport raw materials from the pit to designated locations within the quarry, including the primary crusher and stockpile areas. This role supports daily production activities while maintaining strict adherence to safety, environmental, and operational standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

Safety & Compliance

  • Comply with all company, local, state, and federal safety regulations, policies, and procedures at all times.

  • Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections using required checklists to ensure equipment is operating safely.

  • Identify and promptly report safety hazards, equipment issues, or operational concerns.

Equipment Operation

  • Operate haul trucks in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.

  • Operate haul truck in coordination with loading and crushing operations to support continuous material flow.

  • Position truck properly for loading and dumping as directed by loader operators or supervision.

  • Transport and dump materials into designated locations (crusher, stockpile, or as instructed).

Equipment Inspection & Maintenance

  • Perform routine equipment checks (fuel, oil, water, tires, belts, etc.) and report any defects.

  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and ensure proper housekeeping.

  • Clean material spillage in travel paths when necessary.

Production & Reporting

  • Accurately record loads and complete required operational reports.

  • Maintain productivity expectations while ensuring safe operations.

  • Support overall quarry production goals.

General Operations Support

  • Assist with maintaining a clean and orderly quarry environment.

  • Operate additional equipment (e.g., water truck) as assigned.

  • Perform other duties and cleanup tasks as needed.

REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES:

  • Strong commitment to safety, PPE compliance, and housekeeping standards.

  • Ability to work safely in hot, dusty, noisy industrial environments.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.

  • Willingness and ability to learn new tasks, procedures, and equipment.

  • Dependable with consistent attendance and punctuality.

  • Basic reading, writing, math, and communication skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance and punctuality to support quarry operations; overtime, weekends, holidays, or oncall requirements.

  • Safely and efficiently operate a haul truck to transport raw materials from the pit to designated locations, including the primary crusher and stockpile areas.

  • Operate haul truck continuously throughout the shift, including frequent starting, stopping, maneuvering, and positioning for loading and dumping.

  • Maintain situational awareness and operate equipment safely in a dynamic environment with other heavy equipment, vehicles, and personnel.

  • Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections of haul truck and report any mechanical or safety concerns.

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods while operating heavy equipment over rough, uneven terrain.

  • Must be able to tolerate constant vibration, jarring movements, and prolonged exposure to mobile equipment operation.

  • Work primarily outdoors in a quarry environment with exposure to extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation.

  • Work in an industrial environment with exposure to high noise levels, dust, fumes, and lime/mineral particles.

  • Ability to enter and exit large haul trucks safely, which may include climbing ladders and steps multiple times per shift.

  • Perform physical activities including climbing, standing, walking, balancing, reaching, and occasional stooping or kneeling.

  • Must be able to see, hear, and communicate effectively to safely operate equipment and respond to signals, alarms, and changing conditions.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 35 pounds.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

  • Technical training or Associate's degree in a related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience in an industrial environment.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-2 years of experience in mining, quarrying, or heavy manufacturing.

  • Experience operating heavy equipment.
