Overview

The Director, Process Engineering provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership for all engineering functions supporting a large, geographically dispersed asset base. This role oversees multidiscipline engineering teams-including Process Engineering, Advanced Controls Engineering, and Project Engineering-ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operation of terminals, storage, and processing assets.

The Director partners closely with Operations, Integrity, Engineering and Construction, Commercial, and EH&S to deliver engineering excellence, capital stewardship, and longterm asset performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • Lead a team with responsibility for Energy Transfer's Liquid Terminals Process Engineering function including Optimization, Troubleshooting, Compliance, Project Development, FEED Engineering, Project Support and Commercial Development Support

* Point person for Operations, E&C, and Commercial/BD Teams related to process aspects at the terminal assets

* Available to interact as needed with customers on process related matters associated with major project initiatives

* Establish and maintain engineering governance, design criteria, and technical specifications aligned with PHMSA, API, ASME, and state regulatory requirements.

  • Accountable for delivering best in class technical service, value engineering, and associated deliverables to involved stakeholders, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence

* Drive innovation, digital engineering, and technology adoption across the asset base

* Lead technical investigations, rootcause analyses, and corrective action programs

* Provide process oversight for capital projects, major maintenance, and system expansions

* Ensure engineering quality, cost control, schedule adherence, and alignment with operational needs.

* Review engineering designs, vendor packages, and construction plans for technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.

* Serve as the senior operations engineering advisor to Operations, Commercial, EH&S, and executive leadership.

* Represent the company in industry groups, regulatory discussions, and technical committees.

* Lead and develop a highperforming engineering organization across multiple disciplines and locations.

* Build succession plans, mentor senior engineers, and strengthen technical competency across the enterprise.

* Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Work closely with Project leaders responsible for large scale plant projects in support of project and operational needs
  • Work closely with Business Development/Commercial teams in development of project and estimate support
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with Operations personnel, Project Managers, Commercial teams, outside contractors, and vendors
  • Set priorities and utilize resources to accomplish department objectives according to short- and long-term strategic plans
  • Coach, manage and develop professional staff including selection, hiring, training, career development, performance evaluations and promotional recommendations
  • Provide guidance and inform employees of policy and operational changes

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

  • 15+ years of engineering or related field experience in the energy industry with a
    bachelor's degree in engineering; technical Masters or MBA as well as PE licensure is a plus
  • Ability to work with multiple Energy Transfer groups including but not limited to Operations, Commercial, and Operations Engineering
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Candidates should have extensive experience in process engineering, preferably, in large part, leadership roles
  • As a director, strong leadership and management skills are essential. Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving process improvements is crucial
  • In-depth knowledge of process engineering principles, methodologies, and tools is necessary. Familiarity with process simulation software and optimization techniques is a must
  • Command of Industry Codes and their application - 49 CFR 192, 49 CFR 195, OSHA PSM
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and documents
  • Ability to remain level-headed and calm in high-pressure or high-stress situations
  • Ability to participate in team discussions with an open-minded approach to work towards solutions
  • Ability to direct the conversation to code requirements and company standards as the basis for discussion rather than personal opinions or philosophies
  • Understanding of nuances between different regulatory agencies and their respective codes
  • Understanding of the immediacy of resolving issues in a timely manner to not adversely impact a project schedule or commercial decision
  • Ability to comfortably interact with employees at all levels & adjust approach appropriately
  • Clear verbal and written communication is vital for expressing ideas, collaborating with teams, and conveying strategic plans
  • Strong decision-making skills are essential for leadership roles. Directors must make informed choices that align with the company's vision
  • Must be highly adaptable due to Energy Transfer's dynamic nature
  • Ability to self-direct and create within the bounds of an agreed-upon strategy

Working Conditions:

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • Usually, normal office working conditions.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings which may include hazardous materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
