Description

The Junior Designer, PRPG Children's Imprints will assist the design team in all aspects of the design process, from designing and developing book covers and interiors with guidance from senior designers, to preparing files for print, assets for marketing, and providing assistance to all members of the Design team as and when required. The ideal candidate would be able to efficiently manage a diverse set of responsibilities and would be a motivated and enthusiastic individual who is interested in participating in all aspects of book publishing.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Assist the design team with various projects using InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator skills.
  • Assist with art, photo, and illustrator research.
  • Participate in format development and brainstorming meetings with senior staff.
  • Work with editorial and design staff to develop content direction for formats.
  • Prepares press ready files for printer and reviews digital and printed proofs, all while maintaining production schedules and printer deadlines.
  • Make corrections to reprints and send files to production.
  • Work with Sales and Marketing to collect covers and interiors for presentations.
  • Organizing, checking, and archiving files then sending final files to licensors.
  • Taking notes in specific meetings including weekly cover review meetings.
  • Prepare all materials needed by sales department or outside customers.
  • Problem-solve any issues regarding work as it occurs or anticipate and correct.
  • Calculate measurements and draw templates of our products.
  • Communicates in an effective, professional, and courteous manner with supervisor, team, and freelance artists.
  • Study new brands and competitor's product for a thorough knowledge of market needs.
  • Develop a working knowledge of production to economically develop formats.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Other duties may be assigned, directed, or requested.

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in an office environment (a publishing, product packaging position, or equivalent exposure to the publishing process) is preferred.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop, and Illustrator), as well as a thorough knowledge of preparing and posting print files, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of pre-press, 1-color and 4-color printing processes, and PDF workflow is preferred.
  • Highly organized, able to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and process.
  • Willingness to take on responsibilities and demonstrates an ability to ask for support or help.
  • Strong to advanced experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to speak with all levels of the organization and outside partners.
  • Interpersonal skills - the individual maintains confidentiality, remains open to others' ideas and exhibits willingness to try new things.
  • Oral Communication - the individual speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Written Communication - the individual edits work for spelling and grammar, presents numerical data effectively, and is able to read and interpret written information.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to partner with the management team to influence positive continuous change in ReaderLink's supply chain and publishing programs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • A methodical and organized approach to problem-solving.
  • Must identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully and maintain confidentiality.
  • The work performed is in an office environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate at low decibels.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
Salary: $31.25/hour - $32.69/hour
