Job Summary

The position of Behavioral Health Psychiatric Supervisor II and Associate Training Director of the Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (CCAP) Training Programs (APA-accredited doctoral internship; APPIC-member postdoctoral fellowship) is located at the at the Sacramento County Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services (CAPS) Clinic, a community mental health clinic that serves a highly diverse and underserved Medi-Cal population.

The CAPS Clinic also serves as a primary site for the APA-accredited UC Davis Clinical Child Doctoral Psychology Internship and APPIC-member Clinical Child Postdoctoral Psychology Fellowship. As such, the candidate will serve as the CAPS Clinic site supervisor for the training program.

The incumbent is responsible for patient care in the Sacramento County CAPS Clinic, which is a multidisciplinary clinical enterprise that involves child psychiatrists, child psychologists, child psychology pre- and post- doctoral trainees, and child psychiatry fellows employed by UC Davis Health, together with social workers, psychologists, nurses, program leadership and administrative support employed by Sacramento County. The position holds a separate appointment on the Volunteer Clinical Faculty to allow the incumbent to supervise and teach psychology and psychiatry trainees. The incumbent provides individual and family therapy to children, adolescents and their families utilizing evidence-based approaches, conducts integrated psychological evaluations, and engages in case management and collaborative relationships with ancillary fields. Interactions with community based agencies including schools, residential treatment facilities, the juvenile justice system, child welfare and others are an important component of the position. An ideal candidate possesses specialized training, education, and clinical experience working with infants, children, adolescents, young adults, and families. The position involves a mix of direct care in therapy, psychological assessment, and crisis intervention as well as supervising and teaching trainees.

The position includes a combination of administrative oversight of the training programs, direct clinical care at the CAPS Clinic, along with supervision and teaching psychology trainees. Teaching and supervisory experience of child psychology interns and fellows is preferred. Time is allocated for didactic teaching, case conferences, and supervision.

For this position, 30% of time will be spent providing administrative oversight of the CCAP training programs, and 50% of time will be spent providing direct clinical service including psychological assessment and therapeutic treatment to clients and families. The remaining 20% of time will be spent in academic pursuits including providing training and supervision to licensed and unlicensed trainees on culturally responsive evidence-based individual, family and group interventions, and psychological assessments.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Current licensure as a Clinical Psychologist in the state or California.
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited training program and internship (with emphasis on child/adolescent populations).Completion of an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship. Completion of one year in a post-doctoral fellowship, preferably APA-accredited.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a community mental health setting within an academic medical center or comparable clinical training environment.
  • At least one year of experience with training and supervision of clinical psychology doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Trained in evidence-based clinical interventions, with a preference for experience with trauma-informed interventions, as well as psychological assessment of children and adolescents.
  • Training, experience, and/or certification providing evidence-based psychotherapy (individual, dyadic, family, group) to children and adolescents.
  • Experience writing clear and concise reports, professional correspondence, and psychological assessments/evaluations.
  • Specific training in child/adolescent development within a systemic and attachment-based framework, resilience and trauma/maltreatment, serious mental illness, and multiculturalism.
  • Ability to integrate evidence based practices into training, particularly in areas such as trauma informed care and treatment of common child and adolescent conditions. Experience collaborating in academic medical center environments.
  • Ability to design, implement, and refine training curricula and didactic programming that support the developmental progression of doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Conduct competency based trainee evaluations, utilize structured assessment tools, and provide effective, timely feedback to support trainee growth and performance.
  • Skill in managing trainee caseload distribution, monitoring productivity expectations, and overseeing clinical documentation to ensure program and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong supervision and leadership skills to provide individual and/or group clinical supervision in alignment with California Board of Psychology standards.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, with the ability to integrate culturally responsive practices into clinical care, supervision, and training.
  • Work effectively with a wide range of culturally diverse trainees, patients, and colleagues, and demonstrate the capacity to address health disparities in underserved child and adolescent populations.
  • The role requires the ability to use data to inform program evaluation, quality improvement, and accreditation compliance.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize trainee feedback and clinical service data to guide decision making, maintain accreditation standards, and enhance program effectiveness.
  • Have the capacity to adapt to evolving program needs, manage multiple priorities, and maintain organized systems for communication, documentation, and program operations.
  • Competent in working with diverse populations including race, ethnicity, class, gender identity, sexual orientation/identity, ability, etc..
  • Administers, interprets, and supervises appropriately chosen psychometric instruments and screenings (including psycho-educational, objective and projective measures), writes reports, provides recommendations and feedback to client, family, and other clinicians.
  • Administrative ability to oversee professional billing, business obligations and contractual requirements related to patient care, and to prepare formal psychological evaluation and discharge summaries in accordance with accepted, professional standards. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret pertinent mental health reports and all applicable regulations. Ability to effectively present information orally in one-on-one, small group, and large groups situations.
  • Efficiency and time management. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in collaborating with professionals from multiple systems of care, including child protective services, educational settings, and juvenile justice systems.
  • Familiarity with APA and APPIC accreditation standards and has experience supporting or coordinating accreditation activities, including preparing materials for program reviews or self studies.
  • Experience coordinating or assisting with APA self studies or program reviews
  • Knowledge of APA and APPIC guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Experience managing an APA accredited program and APPIC accredited program and using systems such as APPIC portals, APPA CAS, AAPI, or online evaluation tools (e.g., Qualtrics).
  • Experience developing orientation processes, onboarding workflows, or trainee handbooks/manuals
  • Familiarity with administrative processes within large health systems or public agencies (e.g., county onboarding, academic medical center onboarding)
  • Experience with evidence-based treatment of depression, anxiety, and other prevalent conditions affecting children, adolescents, and their families is preferred.
  • Candidates with a clinical focus on health equity for diverse populations are preferred.
  • Have the ability to support long term planning for training programs by contributing to enhancements in curriculum design, evaluation structures, and trainee competency development.
  • Have skills in gathering, analyzing, and interpreting trainee outcomes data to guide program improvements and meet accreditation expectations.
  • Experience navigating digital systems used for recruitment and evaluation, such as AAPI or APPA CAS, is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational abilities that support the coordination of seminars, onboarding processes, and complex training operations. Communicate clearly and professionally with applicants, trainees, and multidisciplinary team members and contribute effectively to developing high quality program materials such as handbooks and evaluation tools.
  • Knowledge of psychological principles and broad psychological assessments for children and adolescents. Proficiency in evidenced based therapies, in particular TF-CBT. Demonstrated experience in a teaching and/or supervisory role preferably in an academic setting. Demonstrate experience in multicultural psychology. Knowledge of or ability to learn Medi-Cal reimbursement procedures and billing utilizing Smart Care and/or other comparable electronic medical records. Psychologists of minoritized ethnic/racial/cultural groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Language fluency in addition to English, especially Spanish.
