Summary/ Objective:

The Datacom Sales Specialist is responsible for driving sales of data communication and network infrastructure solutions by developing customer relationships, identifying business opportunities, and delivering technical product recommendations. This role combines consultative sales skills with knowledge of networking, structured cabling, fiber, and communication technologies to support customer needs and achieve revenue targets.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM. Additional hours may be required as needed. Onsite

Essential Functions:



  • Assume ownership of our data efforts including Sales and GP Performance.
  • Provide support and guidance to the Outside Sales, Inside Sales and Industrial Automation staffs to maximize our effectiveness in growing the data business.
  • Executing departmental and company DEP and goals.
  • Work with other Data Team members to develop and execute the DEP for the department.
  • Participate in a high-performance team.
  • Participate in activities with Data Vendors, SYD Sales, SYD Specialists, & Marketing.
  • Interact with SYD Sales Management on key business issues, personnel issues, training issues, and account coverage as it relates to the data business.
  • SYD Management Team Quarterly Updates.
  • Maintain a personal presence at our top data accounts.
  • Alleviate obstacles for our Sales team and our customers.
  • Be a major contributor in all SYD meetings.
  • Set a proactive and positive example for the team to follow.
  • Understand and support the SYD Way and implement them into your daily activities.
  • Ensure that your competency development is an ongoing initiative.
  • Maintain confidentiality on sensitive issues.
  • Work with the VP of Sales and the Data Manager on the future direction the Data Group.


Competencies:



  • Knowledge of Datacom, surveillance, fire alarm, and access control systems and related markets preferred
  • Ability to perform takeoffs for plan-and-specification projects is a plus


Work Environment:

This position operates primarily in an office environment and requires the regular use of standard office equipment, including computers, smartphones, internet applications, and photocopiers. The role also involves occasional offsite meetings with customers and business partners.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have:




  • Ability to use a keyboard and type proficiently

Travel:

Some overnight travel is required, and the employee can reasonably expect on average 10% overnight travel to meet the demands of the position. There is a overall 40% of travel expected. This includes visiting other branches, customers and training.

Experience:



  • 1+ years of experience in low voltage, telecommunications, structured cabling, or related industries preferred
  • Hands-on experience installing and supporting copper and/or fiber optic cabling systems preferred
  • BICSI certification is a plus, but not required
  • Familiarity with low voltage systems including video surveillance, access control, fire alarm, overhead paging, and related technologies is highly desirable
