Inside the Role

Digital Manufacturing & Test Engineer responsible for leading the integration of automated inspection and computer vision systems into the Manufacturing Control System to enhance vehicle production quality and validation. This role partners closely with manufacturing engineering teams to support new product launches by evaluating and improving vehicle electronics programming and testing systems (VEPS/VET), ensuring robust hardware validation and manufacturability. Applies data-driven analysis and statistical methods to identify trends, detect emerging electronic issues, and drive root cause resolution within production processes. Additionally, provides technical leadership in the specification, development, and deployment of manufacturing test and inspection systems, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements while delivering reliable, scalable solutions in a fast-paced production environment.

Position offers a starting salary range of$95,000 - $121,000 USD

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, andexperience

What You Drive at DTNA

  • Lead the integration of automated inspection and visual measurement systems into our Manufacturing Control System.

  • Support Manufacturing Engineering Mechatronics team with new product (hardware and software) releases on the Medium Duty vehicle platform. Identify production related design for manufacturing improvements ahead of implementation into the plants by evaluation and validation of vehicle electronics programming and testing (VEPS, VET) systems

  • Provide engineering expertise and guidance on the specification, procurement, and development of manufacturing assembly and vehicle validation systems to ensure compliance with all government and safety regulations.

  • Apply practical problem-solving techniques to resolve systemic failures in the process or with equipment.

  • Resolve risk/issues with a sense of urgency.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering / Engineering Technology or Related Technical Field

  • Proficient in Python for production-grade computer vision and data analysis solutions

  • Basic knowledge of AI/ML concepts and experience with at least one ML framework such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn

  • Developed and deployed object detection models (e.g., YOLO) for automated inspection in manufacturing environments

  • Solid foundation in computer vision fundamentals, including image preprocessing, feature extraction, and camera calibration (OpenCV)

  • Hands-on work with dataset creation, annotation, and model training, including evaluation using precision/recall and mAP metrics

  • Integrated vision systems into manufacturing test stations for real-time inspection and pass/fail decision making

  • Familiarity with deploying and maintaining vision models on industrial edge systems with real-time performance constraints

  • Proven ability to analyze test and inspection data to identify failure trends, detect anomalies, and support root cause investigations

  • Working knowledge of statistical process control (SPC), process monitoring, and data-driven quality improvement methods

  • Strong understanding of vehicle hardware validation, production test systems, and end-of-line environments

  • Built maintainable, modular software using version control (Git) and production-ready coding practices

  • Knowledge of industrial vision hardware, including cameras, optics, and lighting for robust inspection performance

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • Project Management

  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish)

  • Proficiency with SQL a plus

  • Working knowledge in electrical and electronic hardware and software

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as personal computer office automation skills

  • Work independently with minimal supervision

  • Thrive in an environment of ambiguity and ongoing change

  • Ability to lead small to medium sized projects

  • Experience translating business needs into technical requirements

  • Knowledge of vehicle manufacturing processes

  • Exposure to computer vision, anomaly detection, time-series analytics, or NLP applications

  • Interest in applying LLMs or AI-assisted workflows to practical business problems
