Works closely with the ECG Lab staff in the accomplishment of the Adult ECG/Cardiac Stress Laboratory objectives. Edits ECGs for clerical correctness and maintains familiarity of the GE MUSE archive system. Performs and downloads 12-lead ECG's using the currently available UCSF standard ECG machine. When working at the Mount Zion and/or Parnassus Campus: Provides Holter hook-ups and downloads. Provides event monitor hook-ups, device registration into 3rd party vendor websites, and preliminary report retrieval from those website. Performs ambulatory blood pressure monitoring hook-up, download, and report preparation.


  • Prepares equipment and supplies for specific tests. Performs 12-lead ECG tests according to department policy and procedure. Prepares patients for procedures by performing shave/prep specific for procedure. Confirms protocol requirements if necessary.
  • Communicates with Management staff, HLT's and/or Clinical Engineering regarding the performance of cables, connections, and equipment used in the labs. Assists the above staff in coordinating and documenting equipment maintenance as appropriate.
  • Processes 12 lead ECGs utilizing the MUSE archive system. Assigns studies to the appropriate Provider's electronic inbasket for study confirmation. * May contact and schedule patients in the APeX electronic medical record for treadmills, Holter Monitors, Event Monitors, and ambulatory BP monitoring. * Assist with back office operations, including phones and answering patient questions.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Medical Center Code Blue procedures.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and the ability to interact appropriately with patients and other staff.
  • Provide training for other technicians.
  • Works with Non-Invasive Cardiology Manager in establishing quality controls, collection of quality assurance data, and disseminating appropriate information to staff when necessary.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures for the technical and clinical operation of the department. Observes radiation safety regulations.
  • Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all applicable Medical Center and unit specific infection control policies.
  • Participates in the collection and reporting of Quality Improvement data. Assists in research projects as appropriate.
  • May perform other duties as assigned including software interface (MUSE, EMR, Cadence) and billing reconciliation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Trained in performing 12 lead ECGs.
  • High School graduation.
  • Completion of an Electrocardiogram Technician Training (CVT) program or equivalent.
  • Three to five years' experience in a hospital or healthcare position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education equivalent to an AA degree
  • University/teaching hospital experience
  • Experience using computer ECG Management and Electronic Medical Record systems
  • Experience using the GE MUSE archive system
  • Familiarity with SpaceLabs Sentinel PACS

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • BLS certification

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
