Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises the daily function of 24/7/365 security operations over multiple geographic locations and in two states.
  • Supervises Security Access Specialist, valet personnel, the Security Operations Dispatch center, and Security Officers and Coordinators.
  • Performs investigation of security related incidents.
  • Performs intermediate and annual performance reviews as applicable for security department.
  • Helps establish operational procedures for Security activities such as security awareness, traffic control, security of physical property, security training, active assailant and other related disciplines.
  • Manages the Mercyhealth fleet assigned to Security to assure timely and appropriate licensure and safe operation of vehicles and assigned equipment.
  • Confers with representatives of leadership to formulate policies, determine need for programs, and coordinate programs with physical plant and patient safety activities.
  • Conduct in-services and environmental rounds for Mercyhealth and assures proper documentation for all.
  • Maintains proficiency with OSHA regulations, NFPA standards, Joint Commission standards and other regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct pro-active and reactive security assessments and reports on findings. Develop a plan of action as needed.
  • Monitor and trend reported security incidents and implement performance improvement activities based on such trends.
  • Confers with representatives of authorities having local jurisdiction, law enforcement and firefighting agencies to ensure cooperation and coordination of security activities.
  • Oversees and manages all projects where security systems are involved (e.g. access control, surveillance systems, alarms).
  • Maintain compliance with The Joint Commission Environment of Care chapter.
  • Participate in facility Safety Committees. Maintain membership on other committees as assigned.
  • Establish and meet performance improvement goals for department.
  • Organize and promote initiatives to raise awareness about security best practices and conduct security training as requested.
  • Travel within Mercyhealth System will be expected.
  • Collaborate with DTS to ensure that physical security measures protect sensitive patient and organizational data.
  • Oversee contracts and relationships with vendors to ensure they meet organizational standards and expectations.
  • Collaborate with Emergency Management to develop and maintain emergency response plans and facilitate the necessary training and drills for preparedness.
  • Ensure that all staff are compliant with current training and job requirements.
  • Lead and/or participate in security related committees to discuss ongoing concerns, develop strategies, and share best practices across departments.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the organization, encouraging staff to report security concerns and incidents.
  • Collect, analyze, and issue reports on security related data including Workplace Violence.
  • Performs and oversees other security related tasks and duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Three or more years of security experience required. Preferably in a health care related facility.

Knowledge in The Joint Commission Environment of Care, Life Safety & Emergency Operations chapters is preferred. Knowledge of NFPA Life Safety 101 and other related codes preferred.

Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience preferred.

Certification and Licensure

Successful completion of International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Security Officer certification within 4 months of start date.

Successful completion of the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Supervisor course within 8 months of start date.

Level 3 TACT training certification within 12 months of start date. Must maintain this proficiency on an annual basis.

Security certificate or designation through a recognized professional security organization preferred.

Maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Maintain valid proof of vehicle insurance.

Have and maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercyhealth's HR.100 Fleet and Driver Safety policy.

Skills and Abilities

Good interpersonal/communication skills.

Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, access control and surveillance software.

Special Physical Demands

The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Level of Supervision

Work is performed according to specific procedures and post orders, but the incumbent must make decisions using independent judgement required in order to adapt to complex situations.

Supervises

Directly supervises the daily activities of Security Coordinators, security officers, valet staff, and Security Access Specialist. Also directly supervises Security Operations Dispatchers and contracted staff where applicable.

PAY RANGE:

$59,973.61 - $89,960.42
