Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to join Talent Services in a dynamic, enterprise HR experience focused on regulatory compliance, workforce trends, and HR initiatives. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience across core HR disciplines while supporting projects that directly impact workforce compliance, employee programs, and organizational effectiveness.

The intern will work closely with the Health and Welfare team to monitor, research, and communicate emerging leave laws, regulatory requirements, and HR compliance trends that may affect the organization. In addition, the intern will rotate through and support special projects across several Talent Services functions, gaining broad exposure to enterprise HR operations.

This role is ideal for a student or early career professional interested in Human Resources or Business.

As a Talent Services Intern, you will:

  • Partner closely with Health and Welfare specialists to identify and inventory upcoming compliance needs and support regulatory readiness efforts.
  • Assist with HR audits, compliance reviews, documentation tracking, and process improvement activities.
  • Research and analyze federal, state, and local employment regulations, with a focus on leave laws, workforce compliance requirements, and emerging HR policy trends.
  • Prepare summaries, presentations, briefing materials, and recommendations for HR leadership regarding changing regulatory landscapes and workforce impacts.
  • Participate in rotational assignments and special projects within Talent Acquisition, STEM PMO, Talent Development, Total Rewards, the Business Office and other core HR groups.
  • Build professional skills through mentoring, networking opportunities, and exposure to enterprise HR operations and strategy.
  • Collaborate effectively with HR professionals and project teams while developing a strong understanding of the HR function within a complex organization.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Policy, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation development.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, initiative, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Hold U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, as required to access APL's facilities and networks, subject to applicable laws.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
