The Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Tropical Medicine ( MITM) at the School of Medicine & Health Sciences conducts innovative, fundamental, basic and translational research for neglected tropical diseases and other infectious diseases. MITM has a strong tradition of training and policy advocacy for these infectious diseases, which initiate and perpetuate poverty and suffering worldwide. A Research Assistant position is available in the Laboratory of Translational Type 2 Immunity at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, George Washington University, Washington DC, under the supervision of Dr. Pedro Gazzinelli-Guimaraes. The successful candidate will perform laboratory research on projects focused on the molecular program of human B cells and antibodies of individuals infected with helminth parasites and/or vaccinated against helminth parasites. The candidate will use advanced techniques including ELISA, multi-parameter flow cytometry and luminex to investigate the heterogeneity of antigen-specific antibody responses in the context of helminth and/or vaccination. In general, the Research Assistant will conduct specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols, troubleshoot and design new protocols, summarize findings, under the general supervision of a faculty member. In some cases, the candidate will assume general responsibility for general scientific operations in the lab.

Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are reasonably related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in immunology, spectra flow cytometry, ELISA and other immunological techniques.
  • The candidate will have strong collaborative skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills is highly preferred.

Hiring Range $18.40 - $23.07
