Job Description: The Mathematics Instructional Coach provides leadership, professional learning, and coaching support to teachers on the development of mathematics practices that increase opportunities for all students to succeed. They are responsible for providing continuous expertise and support via the processes of co-planning, co-teaching, instructional modeling, and reflecting. The goal of the school-level coaching position is to ensure instructional coherence and rigorous learning. The math instructional coach is responsible for collaborating with school-level content specialists, executive staff, building administrators and teachers to identify school-based areas requiring immediate intervention and improvement. Coaches will meet regularly with other members of the coaching cadre and content specialists to develop and implement systemic strategies and processes, aligned with school-wide goals and ACPS long-range goals. This is a Licensed 10-month, 195 day position and reports to the School's Principal. Location: Patrick Henry K-8 school Qualifications:
- Education: A Bachelor's Degree from an Accredited College or University in a Related Field Required (preferably Math), Master's Degree Preferred.
- Certificates & Licenses: A Valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching Collegiate, or PostGraduate License, with an endorsement in areas such as Elementary Education or Secondary Mathematics.
- Experience:
- A minimum of three to five years of successful teaching experience, Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
- Knowledge of current research in instructional coaching, curriculum trends in instruction, teacher effectiveness, differentiated instruction, student learning, and best practices in instruction.
- Knowledge of a variety of mathematics assessments and familiarity with state assessments.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate the consistent implementation of effective instructional and assessment strategies by supporting teaching through co-planning, co-teaching, modeling, reflecting, and focused classroom visits.
- Strengthen teachers' mathematics content knowledge and their repertoire of pedagogical strategies for teaching rigorous content to all students.
- Create and implement job-embedded professional development aligned with division-wide goals and priorities __e.g., study groups, instructional rounds, lesson-study, seminars on specific content or pedagogical practices.
- Strategically work with teachers to develop their understanding of mathematics content, pedagogy, and positive relationships within the classroom and school.
- Plan and set coherent and aligned goals for teacher development based on data related to student learning.
- Cultivate mathematics lab site classrooms and utilize them to improve the practice of all teachers.
- Develop the capacity of teachers to become mathematics instructional leaders, including coaching peers as part of building a learning community.
- Interact regularly with curriculum specialists and principals to monitor progress of students and staff in relationship to identified coaching targets and objectives.
- Document work and keep progress logs with teacher input.
- Meet weekly with instructional coaching cadre and content specialists to develop systems and structures that support the work of coaching, teaching, and learning.
Compensation: Step Placement and Salary for this position is deteremined by The ACPS Teachers and Other Licensed Staff Salary Scale Clearances:
