Compensation:

* Base Pay Range: $34.46 - $51.02 per hour/per year, based on experience

* Shift Differentials: Additional $8.00 per hour for weekend program shift

ABOUT THE JOB

MU Health Care is seeking a compassionate and skilled nurse to join our Surgical Specialties unit, where you will care for a diverse population of surgical and trauma patients. In this role, you will be essential in assessing and responding to complex post-operative needs, including wound care, drain management, and monitoring for complications associated with abdominal and bariatric surgeries. Your ability to provide attentive pain management and recognize subtle changes in patient condition will directly impact recovery outcomes. You will educate patients and their families on post-surgical care, mobility, and healing expectations, empowering them throughout their recovery journey. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to support rehabilitation and discharge planning. Strong communication skills will enable you to effectively coordinate care with physicians and care team members. Your commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous evaluation of patient outcomes will help drive high-quality care. ABOUT SURGICAL SPECIALTIES

Surgical Specialties is a 28-bed unit dedicated to the care of surgical and trauma patients. This unit handles a wide range of complex general surgery cases, often involving abdominal interventions. We also specialize in elective bariatric surgeries.

MU Health Care is proud to be a Level 1 Trauma Center. Our staff is expertly trained to manage trauma and acute care surgical patients with diverse diagnoses and injuries. Our patients frequently require the use of wounds, drains, braces, and specialized equipment. We work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including physical and occupational therapy, dietary services, social work, and consulting physicians, to ensure the highest standard of patient care.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

* Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, sets goals, and prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative patient needs, including discharge planning.

* Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses the patient's self-report and symptoms of pain promptly. Utilizes an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment (0-10 numerical scale, FACES, or the FLACC.)

* Demonstrates an understanding of medications regarding action and side effects. Reports pertinent information to the appropriate individual. Educates patients and significant others about their medications.

* Demonstrates the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes.

* Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and assigned nursing unit.

* Participates in meetings, in-services, and quality and performance improvement groups. Understands the attendance and punctuality guidelines, and adherence to the dress code.

* Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person and records those observations accurately and concisely.

* Provides quality patient care and works with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the highest patient satisfaction.

* May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

* One (1) year of RN experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
