THE POSITION

Help move PennDOT forward by supporting the Regional Traffic Management Center in building and maintaining strong communication with all internal and external Incident Management partners, including Police, Fire, EMS, PennDOT Maintenance, the Press Office, and the I-95 Corridor Coalition. You will also collaborate closely with our Advanced Traveler Information partners, such as the KYW Traffic Center and regional television news media. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position involves technical work focused on monitoring, evaluating, and coordinating real-time traffic information within a 24-hour Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC). The role requires independent decision-making, strong communication skills, and the ability to operate various traffic management systems and technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, evaluate, and distribute information on emergency and non-emergency traffic conditions.
  • Receive and verify incident details from sources such as police scanners and traffic cameras.
  • Dispatch information through two-way radios and telephone systems.
  • Recommend alternate traffic routes and enter data into systems such as the Road Condition Reporting System (RCRS).
  • Operate Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment, including ATMS, ramp metering, and traffic signal software.
  • Dispatch Freeway Service Patrols (FSPs) and coordinate with Department personnel and emergency management agencies.

Technical Knowledge

  • Understand ITS field devices such as CCTV, Changeable Message Signs (CMS), ramp meters, traffic signals, and travel time systems.
  • Possess knowledge of maintenance requirements for ITS devices, cabinet equipment, and communications networks.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience evaluating and coordinating information related to traffic data, incidents or conditions.
