Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Mammographer - Women's Imaging - Per Diem - Radiology-Women's Imaging - Per Diem - 08:00 AM - 04:00.

In this role, the successful candidate Provides health care services, applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by; or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Responsible for radiology student supervision and evaluation for those students assigned to them. Exercises professional judgement in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Proceeds appropriate patient care and recognize patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. By performing all tasks in an efficient, responsible and caring manner, the employee will be dedicated to meet the needs of customers and staff. In doing so, will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care with respect to the special needs of each patient age group serviced as well as those persons with disabilities

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Operates X-ray Equipment in accordance with State and Federal Codes
  • (1) Selects proper film, screen, film holders and grids;
  • (2) The appropriate SID;
  • (3) Immobilization devices;
  • (4) Correct exposure factors (utilizing optimum Kvp); and
  • (5) Utilizes equipment within the recommended safety guidelines
  • (6) Follows MQSA and ACR guidelines;
  • (7) Notifies ATS for equipment repair or needed supplies
  • (8) Process films properly
  1. Positions patient for proper orientation of anatomy
  • Aligns the center of the part to be demonstrated to the center of the film
  • Sets the correct tube angle and
  • Uses the correct SID
  • Perform positioning as per MQSA guidelines
  1. Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others by demonstrating
  • (1) Radiographic evidence of collimation;
  • (2) The use of gonadal and lead shields;
  • (3) The selection of proper exposure factors.
  1. Identifies film and/or other identification by displaying
  • (1) Utilize right and left markers properly;
  • (2) Utilize accessory markers, e.g. minute, hours and directional;
  • (3) Patient information and date displayed on all images
  1. Evaluates requisition for:
  • (1) Identification of patient, identifying procedure to be performed/checks chart or Rx for order;
  • (2) Verify pertinent clinical history and reason for the exam and
  • (3) Determine utilization of appropriate personal protective equipment (gloves, mask, gown, eye shields).
  • (4) Verification of pregnancy status, if appropriate.
  1. Provides patient care by:
  • (1) Verifying patient identification/checks armband; verify patients name and date of birth
  • (2) Introducing himself/herself to the patient, and briefly explain the procedure;
  • (3) Ensuring patient is properly prepped for the exam;
  • (4) Identifying, when appropriate, that there are no contraindications for performing the exam;
  • (5) Providing appropriate assistance to the imaging table based on patient's condition;
  • (6) Assisting coworkers when needed
  1. Maintains patient care by:
  • (1) Maintaining patient dignity and modesty through proper gowning and covering for the patient;
  • (2) Speaking to the patient in a concerned, professional manner (age appropriate);
  • (3) Utilizing standard universal precautions
  • (4) Providing proper instructions during the exam for moving and breathing;
  • (6) Provides patient safety and security while in the department.
  1. Operates functions of HIS/RIS in accordance with Hospital and Department policy
  • By doing so performs all tracking and other functions that are appropriate to their job
  • Review patient history and accurately enter history information in Novius
  1. Pursues appropriate continuing education.
  • Acquires 12 continuing educational credits annually(5 or more of the 12 CEU's is required in mammography annually)

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Current New York State licensure to practice Diagnostic Radiography.
Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). (Employees hired prior to January 2001 are excluded from this requirement)
Completion of a two year approved ARRT School.
Registered with ARRT for mammography (M)
Continuing qualification
Perform 200 patient exams with 24 month period
Obtain 15 CEUs (specific to mammography) with 36 months from the last facility inspection
8 CEUs initial credits for each practicing modality, incl. digital, stereo
- OR -
40 hours of mammography training to include the following subjects:
Breast anatomy
Physiology
Position / Compression
QA / QC
Breast Implants
25 Supervised Patient Exams (12.5 hrs. maximum allowed to be counted towards the 40 hours, but must be documented)

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $54.02 - $54.02 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
