As the VP of Solution Engineering, you will build, lead, and scale a high-performing Solution Engineering function for a fast-growing FinTech SaaS startup. You will serve as the strategic and technical bridge between Product Development, Sales, Service Delivery, and the market-shaping how prospects understand our platform, ensuring client needs convert into product impact, and helping our GTM team win consistently.

This role requires a player-coach mindset: someone who can architect the long-term solution strategy while also rolling up their sleeves for key deals, competitive positioning, and product validation. You will own pre-sales technical leadership, solution strategy, and delivery results relative to the client's expectations and demands.

Requirements

Essential Functions of Position

1. Leadership & Strategy

  • Build and scale the Solution Engineering organization from the ground up, including hiring, mentoring, and developing top-tier talent.
  • Define the vision, structure, and operating model for technical pre-sales in a high-velocity startup environment.
  • Partner closely with Sales and GTM leadership to streamline deal execution, improve win rates, and refine qualification and evaluation frameworks.
  • Serve on the Mascoma Technologies' leadership team, helping build cross-company alignment in product direction, messaging, pricing, and competitive positioning.

2. Pre-Sales & Technical Expertise

  • Lead solution design, product demonstrations, technical discovery, and proof-of-concept engagements for strategic opportunities.
  • Translate complex technical and regulatory requirements into clear, compelling solution architectures.
  • Develop reusable demos, value frameworks, and technical collateral to improve consistency and efficiency across the sales cycle.
  • Provide hands-on support for marquee client opportunities, strategic accounts, and enterprise evaluations.
  • Manage the proposal and client onboarding process in partnership with GTM and Service Delivery
  • Manage ongoing client relationships, including quarterly business reviews with key client stakeholders across business, technology and operational functions

3. Product Partnership

  • Act as the primary technical voice of the client-feeding insights to Product development and Engineering regarding market needs, feature gaps, and competitive dynamics.
  • Fine-tune the product narrative and roadmap alignment based on evolving client expectations and industry trends.
  • Influence product prioritization and technical roadmap focus with data-backed insights from the field.
  • Oversee hand-offs from pre-sales efforts to post-sales implementation, partnering with service delivery function to demonstrate value realization

4. Market & Competitive Influence

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of FinTech market trends, regulatory requirements, integrations, and competitive technologies.
  • Position the company as a trusted technical and strategic partner during early and late-stage sales cycles.
  • Support marketing with technical thought leadership-webinars, whitepapers, events, and industry engagements.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in Solution Engineering, Sales Engineering, or Technical Consulting roles, with at least 3-5 years leading teams.
  • Strong background in SaaS; FinTech or financial services (payments, banking, risk, compliance, credit, or financial infrastructure) highly preferred.
  • Proven success operating in fast-paced, high-growth startup environments.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing product direction and driving GTM alignment.
  • Exceptional communication and executive-level presentation skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong operational discipline-able to design repeatable processes and scale teams effectively.
  • Comfortable working across complex data, API-driven architectures, and modern cloud-based infrastructures.
  • Empathy for clients combined with a strong commercial mindset.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and build structure in evolving environments.
  • Willing to travel and provide thought leadership at events and seminars.
