The Senior Manager, of Human Resources is a hands-on operational leader responsible for personally managing the day-to-day activities of multiple people-focused functions, including Human Resources, Learning & Development, Organizational Performance, Employee Relations, Benefits, Talent Management, and Workers' Compensation. This role directly performs and manages daily HR operations, compliance, and workforce support across all functions. Each day is different from the next, especially with social interactions.

Reporting to the Head of HR, this role is accountable for executing established HR strategies and ensuring consistent, effective delivery across all functions. The position requires a strong operational mindset, with direct ownership of daily HR activities including recruiting, employee relations, safety coordination, benefits administration, and compliance.

Talent Acquisition



  • Own full-cycle recruiting - from creative sourcing strategy through offer and onboarding
  • Build proactive pipelines, not just reactive job postings;
  • Partner closely with hiring managers to define what great looks like before the search begins
  • Deliver a consistent, high-quality candidate experience that reflects the Husky brand


Onboarding & Employee Experience



  • Lead a best-in-class onboarding experience that sets employees up for success from day one
  • Create early engagement strategies that reflect company values and culture
  • Continuously improve the employee experience across the full lifecycle


Benefits, Payroll & HR Operations



  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees, guiding them through HR processes and answering questions on policies, programs, and procedures
  • Administer benefits programs and manage vendor relationships
  • Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness, reconcile weekly and bi-weekly payroll
  • Administer leave programs (FMLA, state-specific leaves, etc.)
  • Maintain HR systems, employee records, org charts, and data integrity across platforms (e.g., UKG, LMS, Employee Navigator)
  • Develop and deliver regular HR reporting on key metrics: headcount, turnover, hiring, and KPIs that align HR performance with business outcomes
  • Maintain compliance across multi-state employment requirements; serve as internal subject matter expert on employment law
  • Partner with the Head of HR to implement HR programs and support workforce initiatives, engagement efforts, and organizational effectiveness
  • Partner with Safety to support safety initiatives, workers' compensation claims, and return-to-work programs
  • Support audits, reporting requirements, and documentation standards


Culture & Employee Relations



  • Be present and trusted, across all levels of the organization
  • Lead employee engagement committee, rewards and recognition platform and partner with Head of HR to develop ideas to drive employee engagement
  • Conduct or support employee investigations, documenting findings and providing recommendations
  • Champion continuous improvement
  • Support managers on employee/labor relations matters, ensuring consistent and fair application of company policies and practices


Performance Management & Leadership Development



  • Execute performance management processes, including goal setting, annual reviews, coaching, and performance improvement plans
  • Partner with managers to elevate the quality of performance conversations, feedback, and accountability
  • Build, deliver, and support training and development programs; evaluate effectiveness and adjust as needed


Additional Responsibilities include the following.



  • Comply with Corporate Safety and department policies and procedures.
  • Attend required safety trainings and meetings; follow all safety and health guidelines, standards, practices, policies, and procedures; and actively participate in the Husky's Emergency Preparedness program and activities

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required, or equivalent combination of education and 5+ years of HR management experience
  • SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certification preferred


Related experience:



  • 5+ years of HR management experience
  • Proven experience in a small HR department, ability to build structure, not just operated within it
  • Background in manufacturing, industrial, marine terminal, or union environments strongly preferred
  • PNW-based with deep familiarity with the Seattle/Tacoma talent market and employment landscape
  • Multi-state employment experience; comfortable navigating varying compliance requirements
  • Exceptional empathy, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing multiple HR disciplines (e.g., employee relations, talent, benefits, leaves)

Required Credentials:



  • Ability to obtain a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Valid Driver's license
