Summary

Responsible for performing the installation and maintenance of all electronic and specialty equipment installed in city vehicles and the City of Garland radio communication infrastructure.

Pay Range: $18 - $36 (Depending on Qualifications and Experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conduct the installation and/or removal of mobile public safety equipment, including radios, lights, sirens, GPS systems, cameras, and other mobile communication devices in emergency vehicles (e.g., police cars, fire trucks, ambulances) and public works equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with installed equipment and provide effective solutions.

  • Perform routine maintenance and updates on existing equipment to ensure optimal performance.

  • Ensure all installations comply with safety standards and city regulations.

  • Document installation procedures, modifications, and maintenance work accurately.

  • Provide technical support and training to city personnel on the operation and maintenance of installed equipment.

  • Coordinate with other departments or contractors as necessary to complete installation and maintenance tasks.

  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to vehicle electronics and communications systems.

  • Manage inventory of tools and equipment, and order replacement parts as needed.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures for equipment installation and maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Customer service background.

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.

  • Ability to stand for long periods.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education/Experience:

    • Two-year college degree, formal technical training, or a combination of college and training.

    • Two years of related experience in vehicle electronics or a similar field.

  • Certification or licensure in related technical fields (e.g., electronics, telecommunications).

  • Experience with specialized public safety equipment and systems.
