Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly.
Qualifications

One of the following CMA/RMA:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AMT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT)

  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) - National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)

  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA)

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (ARMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AAH) - American Allied Health (AAH)

All of the following:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • H.S. Diploma/GED

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients by collecting chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and completing medication reconciliation

  • Completing telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and other healthcare facilities as directed

  • Gathering and maintaining patient information via telephone per department processes and policies

  • Performing administrative tasks such as patient checkin/checkout, prior authorizations, scheduling appointments, verifying benefits, and coordinating referrals and testing

  • Completing office procedures per department competencies

  • Performing procedures such as urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture or staple removal, cast application/removal, reading negative TB skin tests, and directing patients to nursing staff when TB results appear positive

  • Providing written instructions regarding procedures, medications, or followup per provider direction

  • Retrieving and providing conditionspecific education from approved sources per provider orders

  • Administering medications per provider order

  • Assisting with prescription refills per department protocols

  • Calling medications into pharmacies, notifying patients of refills, and documenting actions in the EMR per provider orders

  • Maintaining competencies related to pointofcare testing, equipment handling, and specialty training

  • Completing MRI safety screenings

  • Stocking supplies and cleaning rooms

  • Obtaining prior authorizations through insurance companies

  • Rooming patients for provider visits

  • Assisting with lumbar punctures

  • Performing visual field testing

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
