Supervisory Responsibilities: This individual will manage a team of Credit Underwriters and have responsibility for day-to-day management, training, performance reviews, and hiring decisions.

Job Summary: This position is responsible for reviewing loan presentations prepared by respective assigned underwriters, evaluating loan decision recommendations, identifying and escalating decisions that pose greater risk to the Bank, proposing solutions for loan structure and due diligence, training credit underwriters, managing underwriting pipeline, managing ancillary credit projects and assignments, and completing written loan presentations for large and complex Commercial Real Estate loans. Loans underwritten by the respective team range from $1,000,000 up to the Bank's legal lending limit for Commercial Real Estate Loans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage interactions with lenders and customers on application submissions and existing loans within the portfolio to their respective underwriter team.
  • Independently identify feasible loan structures, monitoring requirements, and make recommendations.
  • Significant contributor in meetings with Business Bankers and regional SVP's regarding commercial loans and team projects.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement to Centier practices, procedures, and guidance's based on past experience and education.
  • Provide ongoing expert training to respective team members in all areas related to underwriting, risk management, personal development, and project management.
  • Self-prepare and/or review respective team loan underwriting presentations including but not limited to having a strong understanding of the loan relationships underwritten, identification of applicable strengths and weaknesses, assignment of appropriate risk rating, providing detailed collateral analysis, identification of red flag / material changes / trending of financial performance, and loan decision recommendation in accordance to standard bank policy, guidelines, and guidance's. Approvals are to be in accordance to the Banks Loan Authority guidelines.
  • Think independently to present data, conclusions and recommendations when there may not be a predefined policy or procedure.
  • Identify potential risks or insufficient controls in procedures and reports. Take ownership of recommendations and accuracy of analysis.
  • Take ownership of loans managed by the Team to prevent loan maturity delinquency, payment delinquency, collateral shortfalls, and/or net loan charge-offs.
  • Prioritize and manage time to meet strict deadlines and respond to high urgency requests from Management and/or Business Bankers.
  • Learn new tasks, procedures, software/technology as well as conceptual philosophy behind a diverse set of tasks related to risk management of commercial loans.
  • Timely communication of issues or escalated discussions to the Credit Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be a strong leader capable of collaborating across Lending and Credit teams, manage differing viewpoints and drive solutions.
  • Ability to think critically and express conclusions in writing and verbally.
  • Aptitude for quantitative analysis working with numerous variables, spreadsheets with large amounts of data, identifying/summarizing patterns and trends.
  • Significant knowledge of principles of financial analysis and real estate lending.
  • Must be a quick study for new tasks, procedures, software/technology as well as conceptual philosophy behind a diverse set of tasks related to risk management of commercial loans.
  • Strong organizational skill sets.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial worksheets/spreads.
  • Knowledge of Bank's underwriting and core processing systems a plus. Some travel required.

Job Specifications/Skill Requirements:

  • Must possess broad and deep knowledge of underwriting principles for highly complex Commercial Real Estate Loans as well as several forms of specialty lending such as Land Acquisition and Development Lending, Contractor Lending, Hotel Lending, and Senior Housing Lending.
  • Working knowledge of management principles related to candidate selection, performance reviews, team management, and project management.
  • Bachelor's Degree with significant accomplishment in finance and/or accounting. MBA preferred, with focus on finance and/or accounting.
  • Minimum of 7 years of commercial lending experience with an emphasis on credit and risk management.
  • Prior completion of formal credit training either through ABA, RMA, Moody's, or formal internal bank training program.
