Design Engineer I On-Site Bohemia, NY If you're ready for the challenge of working for a dynamic, multi-divisional corporation we have a career opportunity for an organized, motivated, experienced Design Engineer. Our three divisions, Engineering and Test, Technical Services, and Mission Systems, make DTB a diverse, interesting, and challenging place Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design custom structural test fixtures that meet customer statement of work requirements
- Create fixture concepts based on requirements
- Develop a design from concept through completion based on discussions with the internal engineering team and end user/customer
- Performed fundamental hand calculations and first-principles analysis
- Interfaces with customers and the engineering team, to translate design needs
- Participate in and conduct initial and ongoing design reviews
- Select appropriate structural material based on engineering analysis
- Putting requisitions for material while working with the procurement team.
- Use Autodesk Inventor to create drawings of machined parts, weldments, schematics and assemblies
- Create drawings to commercial standards that can be used for fabrication and assembly
- Prepare bills for materials that include fabricated parts, standard hardware, and applicable test instrumentation
- Apply tolerances to ensure parts are produced with the desired fit
- Familiarity with various fabrication methods
- Prepare fabrication plan and fixture assembly procedures
- Act as the technical contact for the fabricators and assemblers during the production phase of projects
- Collaborating with Project Managers to status ongoing projects
- Provide project engineering support during all aspects of the test program
- Manage test programs. Some of the areas of testing include structural testing, armament, pressure, and windblast.
- Coordinate required resources and schedule required to conduct testing
- Interface with customers
- On hands help with testing as needed.
- Write test procedures and test reports
- Travel as required within the continental US
- Overtime might be required during certain periods of a project as needed
The ideal candidate will require:
- BSME or comparable
- 3+ years of relevant design experience using Autodesk Inventor or equivalent software
- Experience in mechanical CAD design (Autodesk Inventor), fixture design, and especially fixture design for testing products
- Experience with CNC machining is beneficial but not required
- Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship and able to pass a drug test and background check
- Expertise in defense, aerospace, telecom, commercial, and/or automotive product qualification requirements
- Ability to read and interpret test specifications
- Must be computer literate, including MS Office
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Ability to work without supervision and to provide technical consultation and guidance
- Experience managing labor and resource schedules
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated technical innovation/guidance, project management, and problem solving
- Ability to work without supervision, with latitude for independent action and decision making
- US Citizenship required
